Erm they probably are.
And it's hard to judge these things as it's very subjective but they'd definitely be in most people's lists of the top academies in the country.
And that result won't matter one iota if two of them come through the system and play for their first team!

Nobody probably, but that seems a little concerning that England's top youth team got blown out by a Ghanaian academy. Sure, these youth tourneys aren't very important to senior team success but it shows there is room for improvement.

Even at U-18 level if a team are bigger than their opponents they tend to do better but it does even itself out when teams gets older.

I like what njpotter is saying. The fact that the African side has done it before to more famous opponents suggests that they are doing something right ....albeit with less resources than Southampton.

The Ghanaians say they're a youth side but they're probably all 35.

Nike used to assemble a team of African kids and ship them around Europe playing tournaments. They were supposedly u16's but they were all 6ft 3 and would just run through midfields and defences for fun. Every so often one of them would score a 30 yard screamer and would naturally end up with a pro contract at Chelsea. It was the kids and their families I felt sorry for, all the hopes and dreams brought about by agents telling them they would earn a fortune!

In the defense of the Africans, they certainly look like youth players in those pictures. Can't really trust their listed ages though, unfortunately.

My lad was in Vale's Academy(sorry) from the age of 12 to 16 and played the Ghanian Right to Dream when he was u15. Man city plough money into this through sponsorship, coaching, soccer schools etc and they are excellent. Their u13 team beat my lads u15 team 2-0 and their u16 team put 8 past Vale's Youth team. They are technically, tactically superb and so athletic and if this is their youth team I can well believe they've walked this tournament and put 7 past Southampton.
