Too many imponderables.
Butland's got great potential, but hardly any Premier League experience.
Johnson might fit in and improve the RB position, or might not.
Ryan has been the ever-present kingpin of the side for years. Now we don't know how many games he'll play, or how fit he'll be when he does.
Muniesa hasn't had a full season at CB. And I'm still not convinced about his positioning and physical presence for this position.
Pieters hasn't had a full pre-season due to fitness issues.
Van Ginkel is an unknown factor. Like Butland, plenty of (yet unproven) potential.
Joselu ... as with Van Ginkel
Affellay - there's no doubting his pedigree, but there are doubts over his fitness. Again, he's not had a full pre-season.
Bojan - we don't know how long it'll be before he returns to his best.
Arnie - needs to show the consistency he's previously lacked.
So, if we won the equivalent of the footballing lottery and everything came good together, we could achieve 6th to 8th.
But there are real concerns that we might be lacking some steel (particularly if Ryan's missing) and Premier League experience. Two more decent signings (Fer and another) could put that right.
More likely that we'll finish mid, or below mid, table. No danger of going down. But I think we'll be playing some nice football along the way.

Last time we stood in the top six the roof blew off the stand and we failed to invest.
This time there is no roof only a gaping hole in the corner but yet again we fail to invest.
I hope and pray history does not repeat itself.
Mid table and safe and I'll be happy as a pig in shit.

I'm not really sure why people are saying we haven't got a prayer.
If we'd beaten Burnley and Leicester at home and not conceded that last minute equaliser against QPR, then we would have finished sixth LAST SEASON and that would have been with an injury ravaged squad.
Not saying that we're likely to this term but to suggest that we've got no chance at all, is clearly nonsense.

Every single team in the division, including title winners, Chelsea, could have had more points "if" they hadn't dropped silly, unexpected points in select games. Southampton who finished 7th were miles better than you were last season on every level. Take a look at their points and even more impressive goal difference. That's just the reality beyond the "ifs". The injury thing is also overplayed. Your injuries were far from the worst affected teams in the league like Newcastle, Arsenal and ManU. You had about the average level of injuries in the league.

9-10th again.... I don't think well finish above it until we get a goalscorer and unfortunately I don't think we have on right now So dioufs tally in a broken season and right wing doesn't inspire confidence for you this season? In a word - NO Of course want him to do brilliantly but don't rate him

When we hit top form we can thrash anyone. We were seriously unlucky with injuries last season and I don't think even our own fans realise how good this team is.
Who would we displace? Who knows? But we beat all 4 of the teams that finished between us and the top 4. I wouldn't be shocked if any of them have a season like Everton's last year.
Top 6 is very unlikely, but there's no reason we can't carry on improving our points tally.

i think we have signed some pretty decent players in the window and hopefully one off the top top players we have targeted will join as well , we have a significantly stronger squad overall , do we have a significantly better first 11 ? I would have to say no we don't .,for that reason it will be as you were ..........hopefully !

We need to replace NZonzi - either Van Ginkel, or we have to buy another player.
Everything went through him, he was our best player by a mile last season. Unless we do, then I think we may struggle to finish top 10.

It would need a major fail again from Liverpool and Spurs . Palace , Swansea , Southampton , westbrom , Newcastle will be in our mini group as well Do agree, I think we should aim high get in the top 8/9 this season with a good cup run and we will be attracting some big players for the following season, then stoke city are back like the good old days.

I'm hoping for 9-12th. N'Zonzi will be a huge loss though. Why look back ? 12th? We are moving forward getting good up coming players making names Bojan, Arnie, To name a few, yes Nzonzi is a big loss but Mark is building in that area and we are playing great football. I hope 8/9th this season with a fruitful cup run. Up the mighty potters mate.!

I think 7th is probably our upper limit at the moment. But, if we got into Europe via a cup (or via 7th place) then we MIGHT be able to attract even better players to push on to challenge for 5th or 6th. I'm hoping for something between 7th and 10th this season with a cup final (or even a cup win) as a bonus. 8th with a cup win or great cup final!
