I've got a gold stud I used for a 'prince Albert' if either of you are interested. I'm not sure what it's worth, but some might say it was priceless. :-)

Mumf Do you actually do that or are you taking the piss? I meant more in a bullion route but I guess if you know the right places the to go there's plenty of money to be made from scrap silver!

My mrs was left a load of gold jewellery by an aunt about four years ago. It contained gold of 9, 14, 18 and 22 carat. We valued it based on the current price per gram for various purities and it was around the £900 mark. So phoned around a few 'we buy any gold' shops and the best offer was £350. Further research revealed that these shops were selling the gold on to one national jewellery dealer in Plymouth so I took the said jewellery to them and was paid £840 for it. So, yes if you are buying gold then opt for the dodgy dealers and haggle. But go in with information on the current prices.

Nothing massive so I know the margins are eaten away a bit more but I like mumf's plan but it's just trying to find a site that's reputable and the price over spot isn't that massive.

You don't use websites .....you walk down back streets and follow your instinct . You look for body language and then act stupid . You look for businesses that don't get many customers . People who are keen to do business because of lack of cash flow. Gold I see as a long term investment . I don't see it for someone at your age . You would be better buying a cheap flat at an auction and renting it out. I am of course guessing or generalising . Limited edition prints are good too especially by good artists , but over a period of 10- 15 years . I have several by John Weiss and Stephen Townsend . Google it . They tend to do popular animal pictures and their pictures have trebled in the last 15 years . I have bought a couple from the Art Gallery in the Potteries centre when it first opened . I normally go in and ask for a new watch battery to be fitted . If he hangs on to the watch until you hand over the fiver , then you know you are on the right lines ..... .....if you follow my drift .

I meant do what you do and buy some off the Internet that is classed as bullion. It is and I just want bits and bobs whilst I can really!
