A free transfer? No, he isn't our marquee signing. Also, he's not normally a right-sided player so we'd still be in for Yarmo or someone like him.
And who knows, maybe even a centre-half or holding midfielder too.

No, at least I doubt that it is intended to be. I'm sure we are still after Yarmolenko, or someone of that quality, for the right.

Fine for me if it is....squads pretty big and I don't see any news on outgoing players.

Might be the last signing, but it's pretty obvious that the marquee signing haven't been successful, not for the want of trying.

Depends on whether one of the so called marquee targets is prepared to "lower themselves" to come to Stoke.
I think MH would still like to attract a top player to join the club, but with time marching on it was necessary to act and bring in a quality experienced winger. There may be some on here disappointed, but IMO he will fit in well with his Dutch and Spanish former colleagues. Let's hope he's over his injury troubles and ready for the Indian summer of his career.

Crikey. Everyone seems to know everything on here. Why not try and be a legend all day long instead of just lunchtime. Who knows!

It seems funny/strange to me that we are talking about "last signing" on 27th July, when we were used to doing deals in the last 48 hours of the window. (WBA have only 1 new signing according to some sites.) Clearly the management is having to wait to see if they can persuade one of the big names to come.
Reality is we still need a genuine RW.
Who goes will depend on offers received. Common sense says offers in the £ms for players over 30 should not be dismissed but seriously considered. Having said that I think PC is not the sort of Chairman to intervene but would IMO be inclined to give wise advice on retaining the core of the squad. It would be a shame to totally dismantle the team that beat Liverpool 6 - 1 only a few weeks ago.

Mark Hughes said "one more signing and we'd probably be done." Nowt definitive. Not that I'd read too much into such utterances.
Affelay is a phenomenal signing for us, by whatever criterion you wish to measure it. He was the first of the big wingers associated with us, and more evidence that Hughes and the Transfer team are like Mounties. -they get their man.
Any more movement will depend on if/who leaves.
With the size of squad I suppose there'll be a number cruncher wincing at the wage bill.
Still think there's a chance of Yarmolenko {today's signing might work in our favour, in showing our intentions.}
I suppose you can't rule out a funky player swap scenario like Odemwingie/Jones. But I reckon anyone else coming in will most likely be on loan

Hopefully the starting 11 will be stronger and mhg and Afellay will come good.

I'm not sure if a big "marquee signing" right winger is such a priority for Hughes now. I'm thinking that Glen Johnson hasn't been bought for just his defensive qualities, he is very attack minded. Perhaps the plan is for Johnson and Walters to be paired up as Walters gives so much protection to his full back, allowing Johnson to attack more freely**. With the wide players we have now I think he will be quite happy with the numbers and the quality.
**I'm not saying that this is my preferred option, just it may be in the manager's thoughts.

There's still one lurking I reckon, but it'll be later on in the window when they realise Stoke is their best option.

There's still one lurking I reckon, but it'll be later on in the window when they realise Stoke is their best option. Yup, if a Yarmo/Shaq type does sign, it will be 30th/31st August when we are their only decent and realistic option left for a move.

So everyone is writing Odemwingie off then? He did a very decent job for us on the RW before his injury. Once he is back to 100% fitness i'd be happy to have him out on the right for us.
