Fair enough. Sectarianism has no place on football. I hope next time there is a case they are just as strong.

No problem with the length of the ban. But it does seem inconsistent with the shorter bans John Terry and Suarez got for racism. The FA ought to explain if it has "upped the tariff" for both racist and sectarian offences - otherwise it looks a bit like like sectarianism is regarded by the FA as being more serious than racism

Quite possibly. That's why the FA should come out and say if the tariff has been increased for both racist and sectarian offences. But, typical of the FA, they do seem to love to complicate things by refusing to explain their actions. Nothing new there then!

It looks like the confidentiality agreement is there to stop that getting out. If he said something pretty bad then 10 games is fair.

It looks like the confidentiality agreement is there to stop that getting out. If he said something pretty bad then 10 games is fair. There's a school of thought that minimising publicity given to sectarian incidents, which in this case means not publishing detail of what was said, helps reduce further sectarian behaviour. Looking at this the other way, if what Broadfoot had said was made public there is a possibility (practically a certainty) that numpties would repeat that abuse parrot fashion when watching and playing football. It would become another clarion call for bigots. Reading Follow Follow's response to this incident makes you somewhat sympathetic to this approach.

From the Irish forum...
Purportedly what Broadfoot said was "if you Fenian B*stards had dived like that on Bloody Sunday, they'd still be alive".

10 games? How is this worse than what Suarez did? Don't get me wrong he should get a ban, no place for that on the pitch, but is sectarianism worse than racism?

He should have kept his mouth shut and just twatted the Twat.

consider the following and ask if sectarian abuse is worse than racist abuse, or worse than breaking someone's jaw or equally as bad as shoving a ref. Maybe it is. I was surprised though he got more than Suarez.
This list from the BBC - so issues with errors or omissions to them please.

It's religious hatred, similar to Homophobia, and has no place in sport. I dislike the term religious hatred, as I pretty much hate all religions, but I don't think I should be banned or prosecuted...

Just wonder if the roles were reversed whether such a fuss would have been kicked up. Sectarianism has absolutely no place in football, but I find it quite interesting that some people are flexible with their morality when it comes to sectarianism....

So if he had just called him a PADDY I guess it would have been fine.
racial jokes about white people appear to be ok but sectarianism (religious differences) isnt.
Didnt Gazza get in trouble once whilst at Rangers?
Its a bit of minefield on what is/what isnt ok.

Like I said, morality is flexible when it comes to sectarianism. It's not OK to call someone a fenian twat, but it's sure as hell okay for Neil Lennon to go into a night club singing IRA chants. Apparently, IRA chants aren't sectarian, they're nationlist... There we go then.
