Roy Vernon used to get dog's abuse from the Stoke fans in the Boothen in the 1960's when he was playing for us. When the team was announced prior to kick off it usually prompted the chorus of "Send Roy Vernon to Vietnam - Hallelujah.........". Roy usually appeared non-plussed as he stubbed his fag out on the wall before his entrance onto the pitch ! This is the cruellest and most brilliant song I've ever heard. Whoever came up with it is a genius.

Vs Brum at the Victoria ground. Wasn't directed at Paul pesch.........let's call him Paul. But his wife Karen Brady going on about how his wife was a filthy slag. I'm trying to remember how the song went? Something about the porn brothers who owned Brum back then. In fairness 'Paul' played on and didn't react one bit

I remember Graham Shaw coming back to the Victoria with PNE, I remember him at the front post when a corner was taken, he got loads of abuse and flicked clandestine 'V' at us in the Boothen End.

I remember Tony Ellis getting abused by Stoke fans at Shrewsbury for trying to get a Shrewsbury player sent off. Possibly the worst abuse at one of our own players, and well deserved too. He got 'dogs abuse' at Leek Town during a pre-season friendly too (from Stoke fans). It got particularly bad when he 'couldn't be arsed' to move onto a great through ball and, instead, turned on the player that played him in. He ended up ranting at the Stoke fans and getting dragged away by a team mate. Remember Phil Heath getting some particularly angry abuse from the travelling Stokies at Fulham. Really doesn't qualify as 'nasty' abuse but the one that I got most angry about............ Nigel Gleghorn (A PROPER FOOTBALLER) was obviously at the wrong end of the age scale but he had a great engine (even if pace had deserted him). Nige was a clever footballer and always gave it 100% and he'd been doing so all game when some moron behind me shouted "Fucking hell Gleghorn, you've done fuck all you tosser". Nige obviously heard it and looked up in our direction in absolute disgust. I turned to my two lads and said "He must ask himself why the hell he bothers". Some fans want locking up!

Garth Crooks when he came back to Stoke with his first appearance for spurs was atrocious GD I remember it well. One bloke in the Butler Street was using vile language whilst giving it the Roman salute and going utterly mental. Saner men have ended up sectioned.

Word for word what I was going to post. Can remember Chapman getting stick whilst still at Stoke. Didn't really understand why as he scored goals. I was a chef when Chapman was at Stoke and he did himself no favours whatsoever as a restaurant customer, giving it the big I AM etc. His reputation off field tended to colour perceptions as I recall.

I was only a youngster and I couldn't understand it. I'd worked it out by the time it was Alex Elder's turn though.

Got a good mate who has followed Spurs for 50 odd years (comes from London). He tells me (regularly) that Ian Moores was something of a 'joke' figure at Spurs. He was lampooned there for the very same reason he was here i.e. dreadful timing when trying to head the ball. He would jump far too early and would be descending just as the ball arrived and every Stoke fan from those days will know exactly what I mean (he was famous for it). Far from 'doing well' there, he's remembered as one of their worst strikers. The memories are a little tainted where he's concerned because Spurs were in the old Division 2 and he was on TV scoring a hat trick against Bristol Rovers in the same game that Colin Lee scored 4. It was all downhill from there. BTW: I'm told Ian was a 'smashing' fella and well loved locally...RIP big fella.

Barry Fry is a clown is a clown. Karen Brady is a fucking slag. And the blues are going down, going down! Absolute belter. Made an appearance in a bar full of Stoke in Barcelona the night before the Valenica game.

Michael Duberry got absolute dogs abuse from somebody, the worst I can remember. I've got a feeling it was Leeds fans calling him a grass maybe? It was vitriolic beyond description! It was Leeds at the Brit about 2005. He was their boo boy. Ostensibly to do with the court case concerning Jonathan Woodgate and Lee Bowyer but he became a bit of a lightning rod for all the fan resentment about the mismanagement at Leeds. I think I'm right in saying he was here on loan from them so he could get away from it all. The guy was getting death threats and all sorts. The icing on the cake though was them still paying the bulk of his wages while he was here. £16k of the £19k rings a bell! Duberry abuse
Much more detail

Much more detailSeem to remember we played Cardiff on my Birthday in November midweek around the time. We won 3-0. I remember their fans singing, "You're supposed to be in jail" at him. We knocked them off the top of the league that night as well.

It was in general use as a stick to beat him, Fenparkpotter mentions Wolves above, but the most vitriolic was Leeds. They had a good following and it was poisonous. Galvanised Doobs if anything though!

Peter fox's finger allegedly I was lurking incognito in the Bycars once and Foxy was making V signs behind his back at the abusive Valeys around me. It would have been a long and very different afternoon if he'd decided to give them the finger instead. Allegedly.

Made me recall another tony Ellis moment at stafford rangers in a friendly. He didn't 'get stuck in' to the degree that most thought he should. When substituted, a Stoke fan shouted 'you're a fucking pufter Ellis'. And then this well_spoken bloke turned to him and said 'you know that do you?'. Ever since I have wondered if indeed Ellis was gay. Or indeed still is.
