That other thread about us giving abuse got me thinking, and I can't tell you of any time a Stoke player's had any abuse of any note. Adam gets some from Spurs, Odemwingie gets some murmurs from WBA and Shawcross gets some hysterical, falsetto camp whimperings from The Arseholes...
But I've been a home fan since 94 and going somewhat regularly away since 08 and I'm yet to think "Jesus" at anything our lot have taken.

I guess Shawcross from opposition fans. But I remember when I was a lot younger, Giften-Noel-Williams had just been subbed off and he went straight towards the tunnel. As he was walking down about 15 fans were just going absolutely mental at him. He was just looking at them and was saying some stuff back, but I couldn't make out what it was. Was pretty sad to see that happen.

Michael Duberry got absolute dogs abuse from somebody, the worst I can remember. I've got a feeling it was Leeds fans calling him a grass maybe? It was vitriolic beyond description!

Ryan still gets dogs abuse at the Emirates , Charlie at white hart lane Their version of dogs abuse is about as intimidating as watching Mr Tumble at the Apollo Theatre in Manchester though and is hardly on the Shaun Wright Phillips, Danny Rose, Robinho, Gareth Barry scale.

Roy Vernon used to get dog's abuse from the Stoke fans in the Boothen in the 1960's when he was playing for us. When the team was announced prior to kick off it usually prompted the chorus of "Send Roy Vernon to Vietnam - Hallelujah.........". Roy usually appeared non-plussed as he stubbed his fag out on the wall before his entrance onto the pitch !

I remember Tony Ellis getting abused by Stoke fans at Shrewsbury for trying to get a Shrewsbury player sent off. Possibly the worst abuse at one of our own players, and well deserved too.

I may remember it as more shocking than it was as I was only 11 at the time, but the abuse Neville Southall got after waddling out to leave an open goal for Tranmere was pretty impressive.
It seemed that every home fan was chanting 'who ate all the pies?' at their own player!
That's got to be extra painful when your own fans are abusing you.

Didn't Kyle Lightbourne get punched by a Stoke fan once, whilst he was coming off the pitch, or have I dreamt that up?

Wasn't Steino racially abused in the 90s by some cunt who went on to become a manager somewhere?

Word for word what I was going to post. Can remember Chapman getting stick whilst still at Stoke. Didn't really understand why as he scored goals.

My recollection was nobody got more than George Berry when he was a Wolves player. From that to cult hero. Legend.

Wasn't Steino racially abused in the 90s by some cunt who went on to become a manager somewhere? This is what came to my mind - the abuse Steino got from Stockport (supporters as well as staff) but also from our lovable web footed cousins up at Vale Park was as bad as I've seen directed at a Stoke player.

Sheron away at QPR in 1997 just after he'd left us in the summer. At the time we thought he'd left for the money and that first half when they were attacking towards the away end is the worst abuse I've ever seen one player receive. Absolutely relentless greedy bastard and Judas chants almost non stop until half time, with coins and pies pelted towards him whenever he got anywhere near the touch line. Even worse than Shaun Wrigh-Phillips received after he got Delap sent off in that infamous match in our first Premier League season, and like with Wright-Phillips you could visibly see him wilt under the abuse.

Sammy Irvine and Viv Busby to name just two players to get abused by Stokies on a regular basis. When things aren't going well some of our fans turn into complete arseholes and turn on their own team.

One for the older fans,Lee Fowler away at Darlington around 1991 in a game we won 1-0.The Stoke fans were in a terrace running down the touchline, very close to the pitch.Fowler won a disputed throw-in from a deflection from Darlington's coloured right winger. Both players claimed the ball, the linesman and ref gave it to Stoke only for Fowler to mock the Darlington player with monkey gestures.I recall all the Stoke fans around me be angry and let him know it....don't think he played much for us after that.
