Think it is fantastic that Stoke are going global with tournaments in Singapore and Germany, I'm disappointed that we do not have a pre season friendly at home for those of us who cannot travel much. Really looked forward to taking my little one to a game before the start of the season as she's too young for season tkt yet.
Not sure why we couldn't have had the Wrexham or Brentford game at our place.
Also think that it would be great if during the holidays Stoke could do an open training session at the Brit, I think this lack of PR lets us down.

Very rare clubs have pre season games at home nowadays .

I'd rather us play away against decent clubs than host lesser opposition and not test the squad after all that's what pre-season is after the first few fitness games.

Apparently TS is currently building his not so secret underground lair beneath the pitch.
He's needs a better stronghold from which to fuck up our transfer business.

Always thought the open training session was a good idea myself. Lets everyone see the new players in action for those who can't go to away friendlies and see something different than on a match day. Let everyone in free and then open up the bars etc. Happy days.

It's so no one gets to see they've filled in the corners before the season starts and we all get a nice pleasant surprise come the 9th August. Yeah right.

I remember a sort of open day /meet the players / training session at the Brit. Jon Parkin gave me an old programme he'd bought.

most kids would love to go and see stoke training, like you say open up the bars, club shop etc and make it a community morning. Think in the holidays a lot would turn up to see their beloved scfc and to feel closer to the players than they do on match days, its been a long time since the end of season.

Could easily get some youth coaches there as well, get the kids playing a bit before or after and turn it into a city 7s recruitment drive while they are at it. Good pr is cheap and buys a lot, we don't do enough of it IMO.

Fifteen years ago, we were crying out for a home friendly against 'big' opposition from the Premier League.
Now, we ARE the 'big' opposition - for the likes of Brentford, Wrexham, Newport... and Arsenal.
Realistically, there are only clubs from the upper echelons of La Liga, Ligue 1, Serie A or the Bundesliga who we would see as 'big' opposition ourselves - but would the likes of Bayern, Real or AC Milan *want* to play us at the Brit, given our (incorrectly-formed) reputation?
In a strange way, we should be proud that we are no longer hosting home friendlies.
I do agree with an open training session - would probably be better on a weekend though, rather than a weekday?

Remember when they did an open training session at the Brit, 2006 I think it was, was allowed to walk around as you pleased and meet the players for photos etc in the Waddington suite after.

During the period between the end of previous season & the start of the new one, the pitch at The Brit is usually dug up and reseeded.
Not sure if this applies this year, but there is the possibility that the playing surface is not ready for a match or a training session.

It is the way of football, and it is because we are a 'big' team that we have no home pre-season fixture.
Unless it is some kind of tournament, the 'bigger' side will almost always travel to the 'smaller' side. The 'smaller' side can create more interest in the fixture - and is normally more in need of the gate money.
Stoke vs Brentford at The Brit, would have a really poor turnout with the costs of staging the match, meaning there would be very little money to be made.
When was the last time we had a home fixture vs an English team? I'd be willing to bet that it was before our PL days? You won't find many PL teams playing a home fixture - unless they have attracted a touring foreign team, or it is part of a tournament ie Emirates Cup.

It also depends on what is the objective of a pre-season game? To prepare a team or make dosh? I don't see why a game at home with a modest gate should be a problem for Stoke...it's hardly going to break us!

Away friendlies give the fans an opportunity to go to grounds they previously may never have been, this sis especially the case when we play away in tournaments like we are doing this year. I'm sure those fans who travelled Singapore and those heading to Cologne would much rather go there than the Brit which we get to go throughout the season.

He obviously meant to say that the PREMIER LEAGUE CLUBS rarely play at home.

I got it, guess I should have put one of these in these first I was just picking up on the general theme of playing at home and/or away. I realise we are not gonna make dosh at Brentford and Wrexham. I was referring to bigger clubs doing promotional tours. I think not playing a game at home is a bit mean on the fans tbh even if its only 10,000 of 'em

At the risk of sounding like a pedantic tosser mate........ I agree with what you're saying but the fella who posted "If none of them are playing at home, where are they playing" was making a joke in response to the poster who said "very few clubs play at home". He onviously meant that very few of the Premier League Clubs (or bigger clubs) play at home but it read that NOBODY plays at home. Obviously SOMEONE plays at home. Apologies mate......too late for your edit.
