I think most people will appreciate that there is a dearth of good live music in Stoke on Trent? So when a strange chain of events led to me being asked to put on a live music event locally I thought I'd accept the challenge Just over a month ago, I contacted the agent of an American singer I like, to enquire about the possibility of hooking her up with some local'ish' music clubs who might host blues/folk artist Willy Porter who I first saw supporting Jethro Tull over ten years ago. It transpired that the agent had already approached the people I was recommending a few times and they were unable to fit the guy into their schedules. I was told that if I really wanted to see the guy play locally, the best way would be to host a show myself So that's what's happening! It's been quite a busy few weeks, hiring venue, building a website, registering online ticketing facility, booking hotel etc etc but now everything is in place for the show which will take place at Tittensor village hall on Sunday October 4th. If anyone is interested in good live music please check out our website and have a look at the videos there. It's also a bring your own booze event which makes it a cheap night out, so if you're interested send me a pm and I'll make sure you get some tickets without paying the extra quid online booking fee. Only a tenner for some top quality live music? You'd be hard pressed to see anyone better play locally this year believe me Willy Porter - Live in Stoke on Trent[/p]

Having our very own Andy Gower on as well would really make the night a success.

I don't agree with you on this point. There are quite a few decent local bands. Other than that good luck with your gig. Sounds interesting.

Terrace at Penkhull tends to have a band on every two weeks
Had Front Page News on last night. Really good, ok they only do rock & blues covers but theres 6 people in the band, sometimes 7 or 8 even!! The musicianship is top notch, the saxophone guy really adds a lot but they are all really good. They even sometimes have a guy get up & play flute on a song or two.

Ian - thanks for tonight! Fantastic evening, Willy was absolutely stunning! Incredible that you can have such an evening for £10! Best £10 I have ever spent in my life. All the best for any future ventures! :-)

There was a young girl singing on a Karaoke stage last weekend at Widnes Vintage Car Rally that grabbed my attention early on Sunday Morning . There was bout 40 people clapping and watching .
She then started singing Whitney Huston songs ...
By lunchtime this had swelled to several hundred . By the time she sang " One moment in time " the crowd had swelled to well over a thousand .
I've never seen seen anything quite like it . She was absolutely unbelievable . I think she was about 12 ....but had the voice of a top artist .
Amazing ....I would have paid £50 to watch her .
sorry to go off topic .

All the best for any future ventures! :-) Thanks Andrew - I'm so pleased with how the evening went and how responsive the audience was. You already knew what to expect but the reaction of those who'd not seen Willy play before made all the hard work worthwhile... I thought it was a masterstroke of his to get in an early reference to Stoke City and I was impressed that he'd taken the trouble to read up about Neil Baldwin. You'll be pleased to know I took him for a breakfast of cheese oatcakes this morning and he confirmed he'd love to come back next year, so watch this space as they say

Well Done Pretzel. I'm glad you enjoyed it too. In my experience you can often get sucked into sorting stuff on the night and faffing about which can detract from your own enjoyment. It is great when it all comes together. Best of luck for future ventures and keep posting the gigs you do on here. It's great to see stuff like this, there was a series of Live&Local gigs a couple of years ago,'Differnt Music In Unusual Pllaces'. I saw some great acts, perhaps the best were The Groan Box Boys at Swythamley Community Centre {with Wincle Ale}.

Lots of great singers locally, some of my favourites are : Jamie Ashton - plays keyboards & sax whilst singing, pop stuff from 70's through to today Luke Gessner - balads, Michael Buble-type stuff as well as soul, standard pop hits Michael Brooks - mainly soul/motown, some pop/swing
These fellas get bookings all over the country, Haven, Butlin's, Pontin's etc etc so if you occasionally catch their name in the Sentinel and they're appearing locally I'd strongly recommend them. (PS I'm not on commission, I don't know any of them personally !)

I think it's time to share a little video from the evening to show what a great night it was and to demonstrate what a consummate performer Willy Porter really is. There are still tickets available for his show in Birmingham on Monday night if anyone regrets not seeing him with us

The video though very good doesn't her voice justice . She can sing ' one moment in time' as good as Whitney Huston . The Amazing thing is that's she's only 11 years old . She will win any singing competition she enters for her age group . This girl will be an International singing star very soon . I've seen some videos of kids efforts on here , but this kid is in a completely different league . Miles better than anything I've ever seen . If you get the chance to watch her ...GO. Fantastic .
