Sarah Hughes.. nice, a rare treat but sometimes found in the Black Lion Consall. Had a pint of it last week in the 'Mucky Duck' in Leek. {I think.} Agree with the Lymestone Brewery too, good gear, but only had it at the Gladstone Pottery do's. Not seen it on general sale around here. They run a pub in Newcastle, the Lymestone Vaults next to Chatwins and you can get the bottled stuff either directly from them or from Brown and Greens at Trentham www.lymestonebrewery.co.uk/Another good brewery is Peakstones Rock, up in the Moorlands. They name a few after the Alton Towers rides. www.peakstonesrock.co.uk/If you fancy a tip north then I recommend Dunham Massey brewery in Bowdon. www.dunhammasseybrewing.co.uk/Cheers. First came across Peakstone Rock at the Beer Festival {last one at King's Hall} maybe 5 years ago. It was only really 'The Oblivion' on offer at the time, it was a really Dark Ale with a dry/dusty hop taste to it. Good stuff and quite strong as I recall, based in Cheadle I think, but I was disappointed that they were using Severn-Trent tap water for the brew. Perhaps that's changed, but I like a beer made from 'proper' water. Part of the charm. Didn't realise they've got a boozer too now.

Interesting looking brewery, good website. I like the stories behind the brews and the brewers. The naming of the beers etc. More than just a mash-up, it's an education. Wincle Ales from Danebridge way have some great beers, named after local village characters, with pictures of them on the pump badge. The Undertaker is my fave.

Interesting story about the other brother who went on to do some Physics and gave the family name to a unit of energy. The Killa Joule? We seem to say it with a 'W' for the booze, and ditch the Franglais? Jowles's. Same water for brewing as the original Stone location. But now straight out of Market Drayton. Their 'Slumbering Monk' is a top drop. {Had a go on their trial run of 'Green Monkey' organic/craft Lager {Trentham monkey forest.}} Sound.

So that's John Powers Whiskey and Spitfire we both like , but I prefer crochet as opposed to your knitting ... I bet you're partial to a bit of bish's finger too ...eh, eh?

I bet you're partial to a bit of bish's finger too ...eh, eh? I think there's certain individuals on here who are far more keen on a gentle prodding by anyone's finger to be honest. I go out about three or four times a year as the rest of it is taken up with long 12-14 hour days 7 days a week. Some pets require insulin injections early morning and you have to be there as and when required . Other jobs like the one this weekend require long distance transport duties so the opportunity to get pissed is extremely limited and becomes almost non existent . I have a 600 mile round trip to the south coast starting Friday morning and finishing Saturday in Liverpool so you won't hear from me . All this coming in a week when my eldest is in hospital having a baby and I won't get the chance to see him . That's the reality of my life unfortunately , but on reflection I wouldn't change it . I see it as a way of life , rather than a job . The downside is that your social life ceases to exist and your only outlet is prating about on here in between office duties. I'm taking out a 250 lb cage out of the van this morning and I'm not looking forward to it either ....tight lines.,

I had Tatton Best in the salt barge pub at the weekend, a nice drink, I didn't know there was a micro brewery at tatton. I always try a guest ale at our local cricket club, they have 4 guest ales on a week, I just can't remember what they are called to have a favourite. Our local CC won the CAMRA national award last year, beating 28000 other entrants

If any of you Real Ale aficianado's happen to venture near Kings' Lynn (unlikely I know!) this place is worth a visit www.beersofeurope.co.uk/I often pick up a few bottles from here, some good stuff, my lad was particularly impressed with a bottle of 'Sheepshaggers Gold' I picked up, think that was more to do with the name tho...

Faversham yes, I wasn't talking about Crafty Hen as such, though I should think you can get any bottled beer on draught somewhere, I just think bottled or canned ales in general are not nearly as good as draught beer. Come to think of it the only beer that I know of that was not available on draught was the bottle conditioned Worthington White Shield which you had to pour carefully to avoid clouding the beer with sediment.I don't know if you can still get it ,I haven't seen it for ages.

Funnily enough I saw some White Shield in Tesco this morning and I have seen it in Booths and Sainsbury 's too so it's still widely available , I haven't bought it in years for some reason . Some years ago I came across Newcastle Brown on draught in an English bar on the Costa Brava , it's the only time I've ever seen it in fact , it's not at all like the bottled version .
