Ive come to this conclusion based on what is happening the last couple of weeks. Now he is never going to come out in public and say this because he will be ridiculed by the Press and fans alike.
But talk of offering Shaqiri to sign and leaving for a Champs League team after 12 months.
Im convinced that in private he is telling his management team and potential signings that we are aiming for a top 4 Champions League spot next season.
I love the guys ambition, he is clearly not happy with mid-table security and wants to go down in history playing and managing at the highest level (hopefully with us).

Top 4 would be a massive leap even with a couple of new wingers

There's no way he's targeting Top 4 next season. We are ambitious. Not deluded.
It's clear we want to get into the Europa League and a couple of players have come out and said that is our main target next season. Even just coming in the top 6 for one season would make a huge difference in the calibre of player we would be able to attract to the club.

Looks like we are aiming for a better level of player but if the net of it all is we lose N'Zonzi, Begovic and Huth and don't actually pull any of our prime targets then the old '40 points' could pretty fast become the limit of our ambition.
Let's hope something gives in the next few weeks, it surely must.

It's not deluded to aspire to be better and I think it's great we have a manager who wants to "challenge" rather than survive.

Let's hope something gives in the next few weeks, it surely must. We have already replaced Huth with Wooly. And Butland is a ready made replacement for Bego so the only person who needs replacing is Zonz, if/when he goes.

love the optimism but not a chance.
Another top 10 finish, maybe pushing Europe if injuries are better than last season.
A lot will hinge on replacements for the key outgoing players too and how quickly they hit the ground running.
Not concerned about Bego, Butland seems every bit as good but N'Zonzi will be a massive blow.

I just don't get how we go from interest in the likes of Knoplyanka and Shaqiri to Junior fucking Hoilett? It doesn't seem sane thinking to me, surely there's a bit of middle ground?

I know it sounds completely crazy because no-one has broken the stranglehold of the richest 6 teams in the league since pre Premier league days in 1992.
I just think the guy refuse to plans for a season to finish 6th to 10th in the league.
Theres a difference between what a guy will say in a press conference vs. down the training ground and with new signings.
He needs to sell a dream to get Shaqiri to sign for us that is for sure. And I suspect he is selling a dream to push us into Europe next season.

I'd imagine we'd want to emulate Southampton however its going to be a big ask to do what they did considering that it also took stuttering seasons from pretty much everybody in the top 6 bar Chelsea.
They surprised people last season but Im not convinced they'll manage to do the same this year.
Our aim has to be top 10 with a potential Europa League spot if we can get some consistency. Anything more will require a huge slice of luck in my opinion.

Mark Hughes is a winner and Peter Coates is a billionaire Stoke City fan. Behind closed doors I'm pretty sure that both are realistic yet hugely ambitious.
I think, as always, our immediate ambitions are to maintain our steady progress but ultimately, our ambitions are fairly clear and have been spoken about by both Manager and Owner. As a club, our aim is to win a trophy and compete in European competition.
As mentioned above, in talks with these "high profile" targets I would always send Hughes and Coates to "sell the dream".
We are an ambitious club and as I've said before, with the FFP ball and chain removed from around our necks, we will attempt to "push on". It won't be easy to attract the targets that the manager wants and we might suffer some disappointment along the way (see Konoplianka) but if we land one of the targets, I'm convinced others will follow them through the door.

He may be bold enough to try and aim for a European spot, but I doubt very much it'll be in the champions league......

I think the club are simply aiming at continuous improvement in all aspects of the business. Some aspects may be dragging their feet for some fans (dare I mention corners!) but since Peter Coates retook control there has been a steady upward journey and I'm sure the Board and the management team are far from satisfied yet.

We'd be pissing ourselves laughing if a Newcastle or Sunderland fan had posted this on one of their message boards. Not really because Newcastle or Sunderland fans would actually believe such a prospect to be realistic. I think everyone, bar the completely insane, knows that the only thing our club can strive to achieve is exactly what we are striving to achieve...to win a cup competition, play in Europe and ultimately be the "best of the rest". 6th is the very best we can achieve and that would mean one of the big 6 having a mare of a season and us having an unbelievable one. Realistically, if we finish 7th, we will have won the league.

If they get him, Benteke will be a massive arrival for Liverpool and will transform their prospects for the season ahead. If they add a decent keeper to their ranks as well (Begovic for example), then the shit season that I would also expected them to have under Rodgers, would look less likely.

It's a natural progression slow but sure, Blackburn were a similar club and a rich passionate man came along and they won the League. I'm not for one second saying we will we the League but we can challenge cant we ? Otherwise lets not play the games we should just draw straws and save a shit load of money and bother. Our club are ambitious that includes the management team and Board why cant supporters dream and hope without being called stupid there is nothing wrong with wishing for better things surely.
