Don't get me wrong I am all up for a massive signing to make the world take notice of Stoke City F.C ( I mean imagine the potential revenue we might get offered) But I feel that if we spent all these summer months chasing Shaqiri for example, we might be missing the bigger picture. For a start, to me RB is by far our weak point. Yes we do need a winger ideally but the amount of goals we gave away from the right side was shocking. Geoff is a good player either as a back up centre half or in defensive midfield. I don't like him as a RB he seems to drift out of position to often and is a expert at giving away cheap free kicks. Bardsley is just rubbish at defending, decent at getting forward but struggles in one on one situations. Surely focusing on this position is a must rather than chasing players that are looking for excuses not to join us.
What I am basically saying is I would rather have a good RB and a winger rather than just a great winger. Ambition is all well and good but I think we would finish higher this season with a good RB and a good winger rather than just a great winger.

Where is your evidence that we are not planning to bring in a right back?

How do you know we aren't chasing any players in other positions? Do you seriously think that we will be chasing Shakiri and nobody else?

I worry we are wasting time instead of looking for the best players that we could attain yes. I am all up for signing him but I think get it done before Singapore or move on.

Where is your evidence that we are not planning to bring in a right back? Never said we were not signing one. Just implying that maybe spending more time focusing on a position that needs addressing urgently is more important than chasing uninterested players.

An interesting post where you've asked a frankly ridiculous question and then gone on to recycle an old argument as if it's original. Must try harder.

Although I don't agree with him, that's perhaps a bit unfair; a post count of seven hardly implies he's on here all the time to read every single discussion.

Do people think we only have 1 member of staff when it comes to scouting and recruitment etc.?
Just because the papers are focussing on the shaqiri/kono deal over the last few weeks in no way implies that's all people are doing behind the scenes! It's not as if when you look at a player you therefore have to stop looking at everyone else until that deal is sorted/binned.
Bizarre really, some people seem to think we're a small business holding with only 3 members of staff

If people disagree with me that's fine. Not everyone is going to think the same. I am not about to spit dummy out over it like others who I won't mention.

The best thing so far about this window is the investment into academy players. We're not putting all of our eggs in one basket.

We are a great club, well run with money we should be ambitious. As for "star" players being out of reach you have to start somewhere is not Crouch a "star" ? Classic line from Field of Dreams " Build it and they will come "

In a word "no". The signings and re-signings have been under the radar. The high-profle deals haven't panned out.

Also I hope you are right about us looking at other players but all seems very quiet. Quiet is probably a good thing where a club of our stature is concerned. I predict one or two quality signings will come out of nowhere and surprise us all...

Honestly prefer we go after the big guns and fail.
Compared to stocking the squad with more Phil Bardsleys and Steve Sidwells.
We can get the C-list players any time during August when things get more desperate. Its just disappointing we cant get one big signing through the gate now.

We already tried to sign a rb before the wingers we've been linked with, and I'm sure we are still trying for another, theres more than a couple of hours in a day, plenty of time yet.

Also I hope you are right about us looking at other players but all seems very quiet. The CLUB (as opposed to the media and the massed ranks of tweeters) have rarely said much about transfers until they happen. About the only comment they made about Konoplyanka was weeks after the media reported our interest, when Coates said it was taking along time to get resolved. Similarly the transfer of Joselu came pretty much out of the blue as far as statements from the club were concerned. And possibly the most significant signing since we got promoted, the signing of Bojan, was never discussed by anyone (club or media) until Hughes was spotted talking to him in a Cheshire hotel. Where Stoke are concerned "very quiet" is the way they prefer things to happen. Not their fault if the media frenzy erupts from time to time. We shouldall know by now that newspapers depend for sales upon column inches and headlines - whether accurate or not.

We once put a bid in for Clive Mendonca, £700,000 if memory serves. We always make high profile bids for player we can never get! It's the Coates way!
