The goals and the mentals, brings back a shed load of memories. The two he scored against the Albion on that night, the swivel half volley and the volley were incredible. Loved the 'Jonny Butler' goal against the Vale as well. It was bonkers in the away end went that went in.

Proper football match

If we signed somebody with Stein's pre-Stoke record now the Oatcake would be going furious and writing him off before he played a game. To a hell of a lot of modern day Stoke fans he was the first of many heroes to wear the red and white stripes with pride.

I especially loved it when Bertie kissed his badge away at Mansfield then fucked off, but to be fair he was a cracking player as was Steino.

Steino was an absolute DEAD SHOT, what a player I wish, I wish, I wish in vain That we could stand on the terracing again Ten thousand pounds at the drop of a hat I’d give it all gladly if our lives could be like that

Also worth watching to see Musselwhite give away THAT blatant penalty.
20+ years of Vale fans moaning about at & it's as blatant a foul as you will ever see, keeper makes no attempt to get the ball.

Quality forward that you just wouldn't get these days. You couldn't pick up a player capable of beating a Premier League goalscoring record for 100k.
Then again, you wouldn't get a manager capable of spotting one either. Lou really was a top manager.
When did football get so shit?

Mark stein...my first stoke City hero and a man whose pictures adorned every available space on my bedroom wall.
Love watching his goals and could do so over and over again.
He was truly magic.

Ri c had the skills and the flair but Stein was just pure goals. In the Youtube video, it wasn't his best goal for us but that finish against Preston at home straight across the keeper and inside the post is sublime

Ric scored better goals, Steino was a better goalscorer.

Sublime finishes from a truly wonderful player. I loved Ric but steino will forever be no1 for me

Pure goal machine. The goals that stand out for me are his 2 v Utd. The goal away at Rotherham and his side foot volley v forest. All different goals and all quality. Legend!

Question, will we ever see someone in the red and white score 33 goals in one season again?... Certainly not whilst we are in the Prem I imagine?...

In this order for me with pure goal scorers from the 80s onwards:
1)Stein. 2)Thorne. 3)Birtie.
Ric was a better player than all of them but not as good a finisher as any of them.

We can chase as many world class players as we like. There'll never be one to compare with the Golden One.
What a player, what a team, and what a time.

Several things for me :
Steino actually scored an awful lot more goals than Ric ( I think anyway, certainly seems that way ) but was more the out and out striker, Ric often had to go wide just to get the ball, Steino had it played to him in a much smaller area. He still had it all to do each time though, and did.
His accuracy of shot was amazing
What a series of dire kits we wore over the time
and just WHAT is the Ref saying to him after the first Man U goal ? It surely can't have been "stop that celebrating, and get back to the halfway line, pronto, son" as Steino was never one to over-milk the celebrations. Maybe it was "Son, has no-one told you ?, you're supposed to let Man U win !"
