Remember all the gnashing of teeth and mass frustration last summer ?
as seemingly - we sat on our hands, whilst others spent big
well, its happening all over again, Swansea in early - spending big (Eder Today)
looking like we're going to lose Bego and possibly even Nzonzi
Im not happy about that either - difference is - we've got money to spread around too
in Hughes (and his extended scouting network) we trust

Livermore and Snodgrass cost them between £12-£14m just in transfer fees. They spent big but were held to ransom buying some very average players.

Nonsense. We need to break the bank multiple times or we lack ambition...

And while we're there Kono should confess his undying love for a club he probably didn't know existed til a few months ago

(that 15 year old Belgian) No idea, but as someone else said he was pictured at CW with his dad/agent. I asked the media guy at Stoke if they normally announce transfers for the development squad and below, he pretty much said no. So the likes of Verlinden Moha and the Blackpool youths may have signed already, but we won't hear about it until player profiles go up.

I think Moha has signed based on what Scholes was saying last week. The Blackpool duo are following a couple of Stoke youth players on Twitter as well as the Stoke Twitter page so I reckon they've signed too.

Good opening post, making a very relevant point. How much have Liverpool and Spurs wasted on players only to get beaten by Stoke? As Leicester showed last season you can put in creditable performances with a low cost squad.
Most signings over £10million do not prove to be good value.
As I've kept harping on here, success is based on the quality of the teamwork which is partly dependent on the quality of individual players, but more importantly how well they play together and for each other.
Players need time to mature into a side, like good red wine. Part of the manager's skill is then knowing when to let go and move onto new, younger players. I am expecting better performances this season from the likes of Diouf, Bojan, and Arni; I leave it to MH's judgement as to which older players should be eased out. He has sent us signals with who he has made new contracts with.

That's because Bruce doesn't know how to use a big transfer budget

You've got to spend it on the right players and know just how you envisage them fitting into your set up, how long they are likely to take to bed in and adapt to a new club possibly a new league in a new country even continent. Then you have to cross your fingers and hope it comes off to even of a fraction of how you hoped it might. Bruce was in an even more difficult situation as he was trying to evolve the playing style of the club. Maybe he tried to do too much all at once or maybe he just wasn't the man for that particular task. You could add to that, that maybe he had no real belief in what he was trying to do as he blinked and tried to return to his trusted gameplan when the more expansive stuff failed to deliver the results. To little effect.

It's either because of their location, or that other clubs are prepared to splash out. Not sure we can do a lot about that, so we'll just have to keep the faith, and stay behind those that are making the decisions.

Nonsense. We need to break the bank multiple times or we lack ambition... Yes Jase, like when we signed Bojan. Hughes out. He's not let us down yet and of course, it will be very disappointing if we lose Bego and the Fonz but we must trust the club. At the end of the day we are not a fashionable club and can't offer European football so we must be patient. We must also balance the books that without doubt, when the next set of financial figures are published I'm sure we will have.

Bego seems to have been biding his time and NZonz clearly was never comfortable here. So off you go lads hope it works out. This is where Les earns his corn and the first bloke I'd have on my side is S Jon

I'd be interested to see if anyone had done research on the peak amount of money to spend or players to sign.
It always seems to me that while spending nothing is not a great choice, spending too much seems to be as bad for league performance if not worse. Sunderland and Spurs always seem to sign upwards of 6 players every year and never improve. Is it that or the fact they don't stick with managers? Or does one lead to the other?
