Why are we waiting until players are in their final year? Why not two years? We might have been in talks with him for the past year for all we know. Players - and especially talented ones - are in no rush to commit to contract extensions these days. We can whine and piss all we want, they are the facts.

Didn't Scholes say at the weekend that we're confident he will sign a new deal?

Provided we get a decent fee, he can be replaced and we'd not have to deal with a transfer request every summer.

Btw we should all remember Southampton lost "key players" last summer and found a way to replace them and finished higher in the table. We can do the same if we have to do it as well. (That's the most positive thing I've ever said)

Stoke will now look sell him unless he wants to run his contract down and then get s bigger signing on fee from his new club next summer
Sad but it's modern football

To be fair I'm not that bothered if he leaves. Yes he's had a good season for us and was rightly player of the season, although no one really stood out as has been mentioned before. He's been pretty average seasons past and it's only this season where he's been more consistent. We've had this contract guff for the last two off seasons and this season looks to be no different. We've offered him a deal and he either signs it or we sell him. No ones bigger than the club itself. £10 million would be a starting figure for me if he wants to join any team that finished in the Top 6 this season but I seriously don't think he's good enough for a regular starting place in a top 4 team myself.

I don't particularly blame him. I've always pretty much thought it was inconceivable that a more attractive club wouldn't plonk about £8m down for him this summer and basically force us to sell him if he agitated (which he obviously will) Just angry at us joining the ranks of the normal Premier League clubs who have to lose their best players every couple of years. Stoke must be almost unique in that they've comfortably established themselves as a Premier League club over a number of years, yet have had virtually no players that 'better' clubs seem to crave! That's certainly changing now though, and will every summer from here I suspect. Very frustrating to have to replace the very best players every summer, as well as the weak links.

Gutted! If he goes to a top CL team then I suppose we can't really begrudge him that. Always thought he'd walk into Arsenals XI. We need to throw all the money we get for him straight at Barca and Sergi Roberto!

We can't afford to let him go for nothing, our transfer policy demands we get some money back on some fucker!

Attachment DeletedNo, please say it's not true He's worth at least £20 million I think but, of course, his contract only having a year chops that down considerably. I really hope he doesn't try and run his contract down as it'll rankle with fans.

John Percy hasn't said Zonz won't sign. He is considering his options. Yeah, I wouldn't get the panties in a twist just yet. I think the person who said to sign him with a CL release clause was right on. That and he just had his best year yet, and he wants to gain from it. The club profits from new deals in an almost yearly fashion, the player is asking the same. Or perhaps the father.

That way he and the club are covered to a certain extent as if he runs it down and gets badly injured he's fucked ....remember Gary Ablett

It's cheaper to pay him a small fortune than sell him for bugger all relatively speaking. However, I don't like players holding clubs to ransom. It'll be interesting to see who comes in for him and what our stance is.

Dembele doesn't sound chuffed at Spurs and he's been included in lists of players who could well be availableAnyone followed his career closely enough to tell if he'd be a natural fit in the N'Zonzi role? He spoke positively of Hughes last year. "For me he was a very good manager," Dembele said. "It was my first year in the Premier League and he spoke a lot with me.
"Maybe the most important thing was the confidence he gave me. How he spoke with me and he made me important in the team. It made me feel very important and that’s a big thing.
"Everyone can see (Stoke) are a good footballing team now. Before they did different things.
"In general he is a coach who gives confidence to his players and likes to play football as well, which you see at Stoke now."
As did Hughes on Dembele last year “I’ve got huge respect for Moussa,” said Hughes. “He’s an outstanding footballer and now he’s at a club which has, no disrespect to Fulham, a higher profile and is getting more attention.
“What people have seen in a short amount of time at Tottenham, he was producing regularly for me and Martin Jol when I left Fulham.
“He’s an outstanding footballer and I always knew when he came to the Premier League that he would make an immediate impact.
“He certainly has done that. Technically he’s very accomplished. He can play right up top, off the front man, on the wings, and in midfield. That’s the quality of the player we are talking about.

Welcome to our pain all you Kiddies and Johnny Come Lately's. There was a time not much more than a decade ago that N'Zonzi would have been sold in the first year of his contract for a £100,000 profit that the board would have let the manager spend £25K on a fat man from Oldham then act all surprised when we got relegated.
This is relatively painless!

Where's this bullshit £6m figure come from? I was figuring £8m may be a starting point, and hoping for £10m with a bit of luck. Not with 12 months left on his deal. His value is depreciating by the day. Same with Begovic who we will also have to accept a cut price offer for.

Yeah - Realise we won't get top whack or 100% value, but still figured about £8m would be a baseline figure. Suppose we'll see what we can eke out when things heat up

Hmmm, we've been in a similar situation with him every close season.Twice he's put in a transfer request but he went nowhere. Why ? Because no one came in for him. He can lust after champions league all he likes but if none of them fancy him he'll be staying here.
He's another one of those players with a big ego who if he just kept his head down and performed every week would have probably got his big move by now.
