Did we offer him a contract extension and if so did he sign it?

Nothing has been announced yet. Although the announcements since the season ended about players (Sorro, Wilko and Palacios) leaving at the end of their contracts did not include him. Maybe they are still monitoring his rehab with a view to deciding how any new contract should be structured?

I can't really see any reason to prevaricate over this one, the club either think he has a chance of featuring next season and making an impact or not. I can't imagine the month of June is really going to tell us anything new. We may as well either roll with it now or give him plenty of notice to find another club.

I suppose it depends how his rehab is going. Can't say he looked anything like his old self over those last few games. Pay as you play?

With a pre season under his belt it might be a different kettle of pork. It was a huge injury to recover from. When it happened many of us thought he wouldn't play for us again.

I hope Wingie gets a new contract - if he does so it should mean he has proved his form and fitness. But, unlike Gods (above) I can quite understand that it might take some time to work out a contract which is fair to both parties. As Joe says, a good pre season may change the picture completely. It may be that he goes on to a short contract from 1 July to the start of the season with a decision being taken at that time as to what sort of contract, if any, he is offered for the season. Let's not forget that he spent most of the last year of his current contract NOT playing after his injury. Rightly, the club continued paying him during his rehab. But it is perfectly understandable if they proceed cautiously over the terms of a new contract. It looks like the surgery worked, thank goodness, but we now have to see if he can recover the sparkling form he showed in his first half season at Stoke. Let's hope he can for his sake and ours.

Maybe we're waiting to see who we sign first

I reckon we're probably waiting to see who we sign first. Perhaps we're looking at offering him a lower basic salary, with add-ons on a pay as you play basis? This would be unfair to him if we gave him that then signed someone fucking ace so he wouldn't get a look in anyway.

Ok not true wingers but we have diouf odemwingie walters arnautovic and maybe cedric as rwb.

I would give him an extension to January then see. I think Premier League rules are that all contracts must be a minimum of 12 months. The lower leagues get a pass on this due to their lesser finances. The contracts are still in place until the end of June or beginning of July as standard so there's still a few weeks to wrap it up. Maybe he'll even do a Diao, take pre-season off and then sign a new contract a week or so before the season starts.

He's worth the gamble isn't he? Can't see him being one of the top earners and just a 12 month contract, no brainer for me.

Pennant had a 12 month contract, it was terminated.

Maybe we're waiting to see who we sign first Well that was my point really but I was thinking do it the other way around. Decide if he is staying or not and then we know what we need, if he doesn't stay we have his wage to play with too while still sticking within budget, if he does stay then we know we already have an option in his position. At the moment we don't know where the heck we are with regard to attacking options or indeed what we have left to invest.

It would be great to retain him imo
What with injuries and the need for quality players in all positions - possibly loan him out until Christmas if we get a a better attacking option. - he will get more opportunities to play
Would we be able to recall him at short notice?

If he is fit it's worth looking at him no doubt but he was a shadow of his former self in the few cameo's he played at the end of the season.

The loan idea is a good point. I'd make it shorter though. Maybe a month at a time.

Scholes was on the Radio Stoke sports bulletin this morning saying he was "hopeful that we could do something with Peter".
I'd be surprised if he didn't get a 12-month extension? He seems a good kiddie around the squad

I suppose it depends how his rehab is going. Can't say he looked anything like his old self over those last few games. Pay as you play? I thought he looked really good v Liverpool. Granted he seemed to be playing it safe in all aspects of his game in those early appearances but I thought there was a noticeable difference in his showing v Liverpool

More more pleased he's got through those few games unscathed tbh.

He hasn't been released so does that mean he's getting a contract? Even if we get a new RW Id still give him a year. Definately still got something to offer on the wing or up front. Guess something needs to happen within the next two weeks or he won't be joining the squad for preseason

No - I think that his age and the fact he is returning from such a serious injury count massively against him. I think we have seen the best of him and he will (rightfully) be wary to commit fully into tackles etc for fear of further damaging his knee again.
Having said all that, it depends on who we manage to bring in to improve the team/squad.

He'd be an excellent acquisition for a Championship club but age is against him with us. He may be worth a squad place on a short term contract but with Joselu here and another winger due in, I'd like to see if Crouch and/or Walters remain.

He's earned the benefit of the doubt and a 1 year contract for me. He was massive in getting us 9th place in Hughes' first season, his attitude is fantastic and since he has gotten his injury has clearly worked incredibly hard to get back to fitness so he can play for us again. He deserves a contact as far as I'm concerned, he has been very good for us.
