Two years after being spotted eating chips, pudding, peas and gravy at the Riverside Chippie.
Who'd have thunk it eh?

His dream job I'd guess. It could be a short stay. Not sure how he's got the gig to be honest.

Good manager for medium/large sized clubs with aspirations, but I didn't think he would get this size of job? Didn't Napoli sack him or let him go?

His only slight bleamish was at Inter.

Decent manager, and probably helps that he's Spanish.
I predict he'll last a year, I'll be amazed if he manages the full 3 years of his contract.

No manager in the world is good enough for the Real Madrid fans because no manager can deliver the European Cup every year. It's ridiculous that Ancelotti got the sack. European Cup semi finalists and league runners up to a team that consists of Messi, Neymar, Suarez etc, having only won the European Cup last year?! Crazy stuff. Benitez will do well to see a year through, let alone 3.

IMO Carlo Ancelotti is one of the best managers out there. I don't think Rafa is close to his level.

According to talksport this morning Rafa wants to build his Real team around Bale, which apparently impressed the Real chairman as Bale was his marquee signing last season. Remains to be seen how Ronaldo reacts to this. Tough times ahead for Rafa methinks.

You can see why he would want to build his team around Bale though.

This will either go spectacularly well or end up in a shambles. I really wish him well, likeable bloke is Rafa and something of a cup specialist.

I give him till christmas. His teams are naturally quite defensive, not exactly the kind of football that madrid fans/directors expect from their side. Add to that, he has to deal with egos such as ronaldo and bale, and hes not the best man-manager.

His only slight bleamish was at Inter. how did he do ok with Napoli? Got eliminated in the Europa league against a very average team in the semis and lost out on a champions league place. I wouldnt classify that as 'ok' ....

Obviously a very good manager but it is a strange appointment for me. Rafa is a safety first merchant which is so anti--Real I find it astonishing. I predict Ronaldo will be off within twelve months now. Bale will end up their main man.

Ronaldo has had points where he's come under attack from the fans despite being the best player in the world and scoring every 3 mins for them (that might not be a 100% accurate stat!)...they went ballistic at Mourinho for dropping Casillas then this season Casillas was booed off the pitch by the fans. in terms of being loyal to their players, their fans are probably the worst out there and are happy to turn on them as and when for just about any reason

They are the worst, and that comes from people I've had the pleasure to meet who work for the club!

I could see Rafa doing really well at Real Madrid. Very underrated manager. He took a dreadful team and won the Champions League. Just read some of these names:
Jerzy Dudek, Steve Finnan, Djimi Traore, Djibril Cisse, Vladimir Smicer.... they all took part in that final and they were really not top players, hell, I doubt any apart from Smicer would have got in our team. They even had Igor Biscan was on the bench. They had a very poor team and he guided them to the Champions League final at the expense of not even going for the title, which they weren't good enough to win anyway.
Very good manager if you ask me.
