Just a quick tip. I upgraded from W7 and W10 keeps a 30GB+ Windows.old file just incase you want to revert back to your old OS. So if you're sure you're going to stick with W10 then run the Disk Cleanup utility and use the 'Clean up System Files' button to reclaim the space.
Also, if you're experiencing a lot of HDD activity after upgrading, goto the Services panel and scroll down to Superfetch. Hit right click > properties and then stop it. Also use the drop down box to disable it from starting up again.

Updated earlier from Windows 8.1, mine seems to be running marginally slower. I like the changes though.

So...you can't use Microsoft 10 if you operate Vista then?
Asking for a friend.

Going update from windows7. Does it keep all your files mp3s bookmarks etc ? Yup, keeps all your old files and apps. Worth backing them up on a USB stick though.

I'm trying to install it but it won't let me because I'm in audit mode, I've done the bit in blue below and restarted but still having the same issue
To disable Audit mode
Go to Start > Run Type regedit and click OK Find the following registry key
In Windows 7 The value of ImageState in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup\State
Right-click the registry key ImageState and select Modify
Delete the value and click OK
I'd be grateful if anyone could assist

Thanks for that, I'll try the 64bit version, but I guess if it's somehow putting Windows 10, on top of my Windows 7 Pro, it won't be compatible...

I've sort of given up trying to upgrade Vista to Windows 10. i can't find the free download link via Preview. That's probably because Vista isn't one of the operating systems that qualify for a free upgrades. You can't upgrade from Vista to Windows 10 for free.

I've sort of given up trying to upgrade Vista to Windows 10. i can't find the free download link via Preview. Vista came out in 2006 so your friend's PC must be pretty old. Worth also bearing in mind that Vista is no longer supported so your friend is using an unsecure OS.
