Just got back from hols but whilst walking down one of narrow streets in Dubrovnik heard a complete stranger shouting out "hey Potters" "Mr Stoke City". A local fella then walks up to us and starts reciting the entire, and I mean the entire Stoke squad. He went onto say that although his first team is Dynamo Zaghreb he loves Stoke City not because we play nice football but because everyone who comes to the Britannia has to fight for everything they get. He specifically mentioned the Wilkinson Ronaldo exchange. He said Stoke are his favourite UK team. My 12 year old son was absolutely made up to meet a fellow Stokie abroad.Has anyone else bumped into this guy?

Was in Dubrovnik last August mate when we beat Man City and Portsmouth and drew with Hull. The locals were very knowledgable about the premier league and I spoke to a lot of them about Stoke and they knew a lot about our club.Restaurant owners/waiters all wanted to talk football with us and we could have sat there all night talking football.Great place to visit and would also reccomend the trips to Montenegro and Bosnia.

Me and the missus had a similar encounter, but in the middle of China. We were walking around the Shaolin Monastry at Dengfeng, doing the whole tourist thing, when a bloke approached us, pointed at my t-shirt and in Chinglish just said "Stoke City. Stanley Matthews. Gordon Banks". Spent a good 30 mins chatting to him and his mates over a drink. Really nice guys.

How was Dubrovnik? We go in a week's time went twice last year - superb. Avoid the cruise ship mobs and get into the back streets away from main drags and you'll find some great little bars and restaurants - those down by the harbour are expensive and full of yanks in bad leisure wear... Buses are ace and worth a trip up to the Lapad penninusula - get a bus to Babin Kuk then drop onto the Coast path via the Royal Princess Hotel and take the walk back towards Dubrovnik until you hit a nice bay & some bars / hotels & keep on main drag til u hit a roadabout where u can get your bus back to town - gorgeous views....

I went to Croatia (and Montenegro and Bosnia & Herzegovina) in September of our first Premier League season and barely anyone had heard of us. It shows how much being an established Premier League club helps. I remember seeing England beat Croatia 4-1 in my apartment, when barely anyone at home was able to watch it (was it even on Sky?).
I highly recommend a daytrip to Kotor in Montenegro from Dubrovnik (it's about an hour away if I remember rightly), and depending how long you're there, it's worth getting out to at least one of the islands. I really enjoyed B&H too, although the contrast with Croatia and the power Croatia still held over the country was a bit of a surprise. It's all a great part of Europe anyway.
