Assuming we sell Begovic this is. Personally would love to get Rob Green but Chelsea are linked with him and he might still be wanting first team football in all fairness... Therefore I'd also like to suggest Westwood! Never see him get recognition but he has had an awesome season for Wednesday...

Therefore I'd also like to suggest Westwood! Never see him get recognition but he has had an awesome season for Wednesday... Good call in my opinion. Very good keeper, experienced and wouldn't cost us an arm and a leg. I would either go for him or perhaps Marshall. However, I have a feeling that Sparky might wait until he sees young Haugaard in the friendlies or perhaps a few cup matches before deciding IF we would need to strengthen in the keeper department. And all this is IF Bego goes (though he probably will, to be honest).

Rob Green? Would Westwood come as back up? Good 'keeper though, better than Green!

Rob Green? Would Westwood come as back up? Good 'keeper though, better than Green! You don't rate him!? He's had an excellent season and his experience would be great for Jack I think... That second point is a good question, I'm not sure. We could offer him much more money then he is on it'd just be the problem that's always prevalent when it comes to signing keepers and that is that the number two knows they'll get very few minutes. Hughes' focus on the cup might be enough to sway him however? Assuming he'd get cup games, as would our ambition to play in Europe.

He's not someone I'd our 'keepers learning from. It's going to be interesting to see who we can attract and how much weaker it makes us in that position. Hopefully not much.

I guess it's to be expected after the goal he conceded when you England played the USMNT to be fair, that was a hideous goal. I think you're right, we are linked with tonnes of attacking minded players but I actually am fairly confident we will get goals. I think who we sign in right back and the ability to stay injury free will be more season defining then swapping up our front 4. We need good, experienced cover for Jack.

Westwood is a good shout but what about Chris Kirkland? Totally lost his way and 34 now but cheap and more than happy to sit on the bench I'd have thought

I've never had a problem with Rob Green and always thought he was unfortunate to be a good keeper in shit teams but apparently from a stat I heard the other day, he has made the most mistakes leading to opposition goals of all the keepers in the league this season.
He is thought of as being prone to errors and I always thought it was unfair based on 'that' world cup error but in all honestly he does just make a lot of mistakes.

Isn't Green going Chelsea?
For me I'd sign Pantilimon for proper competition rather than get a lame duck in as backup.

Westwood is a good call, he just seems too small to be a great. But not Rob Green, please.

With our great goalkeeping base suddenly looking a bit shakey in terms of back up, why did we let Sorro leave? He will be 39 years old at the beginning of next season and a one year contract would have steadied the ship while Haugaard is assessed possibly on loan in championship. Sorro is certainly as good as some of the back up possibilities mentioned.

He's got it all AND that aura of confidence that only the very best keepers have.

But many good keepers have played on in their late 30s and early 40s as premier league club first choice and back up keepers. Brad Friedel just retired as Spurs reserve keeper at 44 yrs old. Van de Sar and Lehman were in their early 40s when they retired and how old is Schwarzer who was mentioned earlier in this thread?f

I watched Westwood a lot at Coventry and he is a great shot stopper but a massive flapper. He probably wouldn't be cheap either.

Always hard to know what you could attract as a No.2 and what's a decent level to pitch for.
There are some on this list who've looked good keepers in the C'sip like Hennessey, Myhill and McCarthy - and it's interesting that West Ham went for Randolph yesterday, who was a regular Championship keeper at Birmingham last season, to sit on their bench, to replace Jaaskelainen.
Bit of a mixed bag overall but can't see us being happy with Haugaard to do it for us if Bego goes. But where we'd look, who knows?
Don't suppose we could attract the likes of Allan McGregor or David Marshall?
