To keep improving you have to get new players, to get new players you have to get rid of old players. If it means we have some good players replacing Wilko and Palacios then great but is that really doable for a club of our size? In every attacking position bar the left wing we've got two starters who will be on 30k+ a week. Can we afford to add to that without getting rid of one of them? I think there is room one ie Moses but more? I think someone would have to leave. So you have to ask do you want to improve or stand still? And often in the Premier League standing still means going backwards.
Correct, but this is the art of management. Knowing who to keep and who to let go. It could be argued that in a former life we flogged a dead horse far too long.
Indeed we did, that's why I'm surprised we have got rid of Wingie. It's the easy way out, we keep two players we know we can rely on and then add two more with the places we've naturally got in the squad.

I missed a "n't" out. I would have let him go.

Right, controversial but I tend to agree. Massive injury to get over at his age. Big question to be answered on whether he can get back to his form from Jan last year. See Robert Huth.

I don't understand this obsession with getting rid of players. We shouldn't even be thinking about losing anyone who has been in or around the first team this season. To keep improving you have to get new players, to get new players you have to get rid of old players. And often in the Premier League standing still means going backwards. Obviously I 'd like us to progress. I agree with all your statements, though I'd take some issue with the first one. Several players are leaving by 'natural wastage' (including Huth, I suspect, and possibly Bego) and we need two players for every position as this season has shown. Without proper cover we won't progress. To suggest, as some have, that we get rid of established, experienced Premier League players seems to me to be a luxury we can't afford.

Huth has proved he can and is 4 years younger and don't even get me started on that farce! Back to Wingie, we need a right winger to start the majority of games, one of him or Walters imo has to go for that to happen. Wingie is the easy option to get rid of.

Looking at the squad I think there are about 5 places up for grabs at least. Huth, Wilson, Shea, ness, Wilkerson, Tommy, Moses and if Wingy don't sign there is another! Wilson won't be going anywhere.
