Our U-21 side are playing in the Hong Kong Football Sevens this weekend. We're in a group with Yau Yee League Select, Hong Kong FA U-20's and Atletico Madrid. Yau Yee League Select are a team from the local amateur league and a team of blokes from what I can see. The Hong Kong FA U-20's is as it says on the tin, it's the Hong Kong U-20 side. Atletico Madrid are a little better known. From the look of it they've taken some older lads and some who have played in their first team. May 30th (all local time)15:40 Stoke City vs Yau Yee League Select 17:22 Stoke City vs HKFA U-20 19:04 Stoke City vs Atletico Madrid 1. Daniel Bachmann (Austria; 20) - Goalkeeper 2. Johnville Renee-Pringle (England; 18) - Right-back 3. Bobby Moseley (Ireland; 19) - Left-back 4. Eddy Lecygne (France; 18) - Centre midfield 5. Liam Edwards (England; 18) - Centre-back 6. Ryan O'Reilly (Ireland; 19) - Centre-back 7. Yusuf Coban (Germany; 18) - Forward 8. Oliver Shenton (England; 17) - Centre midfield 9. Tom Shepherd (Wales; 17) - Forward 10. I used to play in the Yau Yee League when living in Hong Kong and one of my ex-team mates and a good friend is now a coach over there and has been chosen to coach the Yau Yee Select team for this tournament (he's the dark haired bloke 2nd from the left in the top row in their squad photo). He's an Arse fan, but otherwise a decent lad. ;-)
I had told him to watch out for N'goy and Ollie, but I see N'goy is now injured, which is a shame.

Johnville Renee-Pringle is a great name. Comes from a well known crisp family?

Johnville Renee-Pringle is a great name. Comes from a well known crisp family? His uncles Gary Lineker (allegedly)

I play in the Yau Yee league from time to time and know some of the guys in the Select team. Against pros they will get battered. HK U20s wont be much better. Stoke should do well.

Better in the second game though. 3 up, Shenton and 2 from Lecygne.

We can't beat the Sunday leaguers (probably harsh) but we can get a result vs Atletico Madrid and seemingly piss them off too!

No don't think so, we never do well against the likes of Leek Town etc so that was thoroughly expected, annoying though.

Lost 2-0. Again against a team of blokes but a team of blokes who play in Hong Kong's second division. Pretty shit! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HKFC_Soccer_SectionWe should have been 2/3 up ourselves but squandered excellent chances.

So, they've gone all the way to HK to play 60mins (4 x 15mins) of 7 a side football on a plastic pitch with reports of violence from opposing players? Will we be repeating this experiment in the future?? You wouldn't imagine so would you!?!

Will we be repeating this experiment in the future?? You wouldn't imagine so would you!?! It isn't all bad though is it? Drawing 2-2 at a neutral venue with Atletico Madrid's U21 side is pretty good, I'd have thought. Certainly I wouldn't have complained at that result before the game started. Are overseas tournaments only of interest if we win most of our games? I'd have thought the experience of these tournaments could be good for the lads whether we win or lose. And that fact that Shenton scored 3 goals when he was probably one of the youngest players in the tournament is great news.

The U-21s finished second bottom of the bottom league last season - so don't expect too much from. The U-18s however are tremendous and in a year or two the U-21s will no doubt make a better showing.
Anyone know where the U-18s are playing their pre-season games?

I'd heard rumours of Hungary for the u18's and Spain for the u21's. Mind you, Germany was mentioned last year and they ended up in Brighton. The 18's could be worth keeping an eye on, they only kept a couple of u16's on and seem intent on bringing in decent quality first years to go with the guys that finished the season strongly.
