We used to have pre season tours - Now we have post season tours too - Yes the Premier league is a global brand but surely - surely to god -with the pressure and the intensity of the game AND , even though these chaps earn an absolute fortune
and --- Watching FIFA squirm all summer is going to be entertaining enough ?
Surely you have to got to give the players and management of our clubs June off at the very least ?????????
Professional sportsmen need some 'downtime' - or they get stale - just look at England Cricket - or our national team in cup competitons
like it or not - they need a proper chance to unwind with their families - relax - have fun - recharge the batteries -just like the rest of us
Spurs - Swansea - Man City etc, etc, all on post season tours -right now
completely mad as far as Im concerned

Back in the day (the 70's) didn't we used to swan off anywhere that would pay us and any time to play some games?

i don't mind them myself but what really pisses me off is when clubs refuse to let players go to U21 tournaments because they're "Tired" or "Don't want to risk them" then happily take them away on both post and pre-season tours

Fuck them. If that is the price of earning £150k per week I have no sympathy

Historically Nothing new for Stoke even in fairly recent times we've done a few... Barbados/ Martinique ..under Durban , the Martinique game was abandoned without a ball being kicked due to riot re home rule , should also have played Trinidad but they didn't belong to FIFA at the time , so not allowed to play them... Also played in Jersey under Alan Ball

Cleveland Stokers it was, can't remember the year but Paul Shardlow one of our goalkeepers (stone boy) bought me some programs back that must be in the loft somewhere.
