Showing my age now but I was about ten. My father was a Stoke man and I can remember Stoke thrashing Bertie Mee's Arsenal, who would go on to do the double. Would there be any older Stoke fans on here who was at that game or saw it on the telly? I wonder how that compared to yesterday's hammering of Liverpool? Arsenal were lucky to knock Stoke out of the FA Cup semi that year too as it took a last minute Peter Storey penalty to deny you a place in the final. What a team Tony Waddington had back then. I haven't seen these goals for about 40 years! Stoke 5 Arsenal 0

I was there for both.
Yesterday's was more enjoyable, because it was so much more unexpected. (45 years is a long time and back then I had been to the 9-0 win over Ipswich at Easter 1964 and the 6-1 win over Villa, so to an 11 year old, such results were not totally unexpected)
The 5-0 win over Arsenal was a much better result and performance as Arsenal were a much better team than Liverpool are and were on their way to the Double. (We also beat runners-up Leeds 3-0 in the previous home game)

Regarding the Arsenal game, it was not as if Arsenal were in bad form - they scored six themselves the previous week.

I was there with my dad.Terry Conroy scored a brilliant goal which won Goal of the Season, he played a little one-two with Greenhoff ( I think) and smashed it past Bob Wilson from about 35 yards.Bob Wilson was interviewed recently on Talk Sport and he said it was the turning point in their season and they went unbeaten then and won the double. The semi final against us was heart breaking as the FA Cup Final in those days was the biggest day in the season by miles.

I was at the Arsenal game. Took my uncle who lived in Bristol to one of his few Stoke matches. Stoke were tremendous as they were first half yesterday. We were promoted to main match on MOTD if I remember rightly. The Ipswich match I think we won 9 1. Broadfoot scored a great goal for Ipswich.Think they were champions the preceding season. Great period for Stoke. This could be as good or better.

The Ipswich score was 9-1 not 9-0 I know. As soon as I had posted, I realised that I had mixed it up with the 9-0 against Plymouth. It is an age thing!

Yes, I was there for the 5-0 (in the Stoke End) and for the 6-1 against Villa (in the Boothen). Harry Burrows, who was ex-Villa, got a hat-trick. No-one has mentioned the 6 we put past Northampton Town in their one season in the First Division; 1965-66?

The game that the twat Storey got sent off right in front of the Butler street stand was after the two semi finals as by that time we hated Arsenal with passion. It was only right he had to walk the width of the pitch with the whole ground baying for blood! I was at the semi at Hillsboro and was in tears at the end like most of the Stoke players. Still not forgiven ArseNIL and never will!

It was my first game in respect Stoke was my team but remember asking the man who ran the hotel my family were in did he know the score and said it was 2-0 sorry he said 5-0 as the result came in late as they were 3:15 kick off Stoke home games. This season when Bojan made it 4-0 I dreamed of another 5-0'until The Ref Taylor who also did yesterday's game had other ideas and was Arsenal protection.

I was down by the tunnel giving him dogs abuse. I seem to remember someone chucking something at him and hitting him but perhaps that was just an adolescents over active imagination.

(We also beat runners-up Leeds 3-0 in the previous home game) I saw the game and was about to post much the same as you until I saw your post. The Arsenal result was a shock because Arsenal were a top team playing well. Yesterday no one could have expected Liverpool to be as poor as they were but, if we are honest, they haven't looked really good for a long while. But 5-0 at half time must have surprised even the most optimistic Stokie. One other thing is worth comment - we have now had two successive home games where the managers of teams above us (Spurs and Liverpool) have put out teams which never looked up to the job of getting a result. Pochettino seems to have thought we were still a long ball team of giants with no pace! And I'm not sure what Rogers thought of us, to send his team out with no discernible strikers and no specialist at right back against our most skilful player???????? Whatever both of them thought they were doing they got it very wrong and they got the results their lack of preparation deserved. By contrast Dyche sent out his (already relegated) Burnley team last week well aware of how to play against us - and the result could have gone either way - a tribute to Dyche's tactical awareness. Who is the best manager - Rogers, Pochettino or Dyche? I doubt it is the one who is paid the most money!

I was there and 14-years-old. We were on the up and even went on to compete with and beat the best in the league and get up amongst them, almost winning the tittle.
Yesterday's victory should really be tucked away as just one of those great wins that come along now and then, but I'm tempted to start thinking about us being on an upward trajectory to...

.What I remember of the ist semi at Hillsboro we where almost there only for the jammy bastards get a pen right at the end of the match ,still think John Mahoney got his head to the ball to get it away. The thing I can not forget about Ian Storey was away at Arse with Huddy by the side line ,ball at his feet Storey comes flying in with a leg breaker Huddy just moves to one side and Storey nearly ends up in the paddock made him look a right twat.At that the whole Arsenal team where dirty bastards.

I was there when we beat Arsenal 5-0. It was a superb performance by a team that seemed destined to win a trophy in the near future. Of course, we didn't have long to wait until the League Cup win.
However, I think that yesterday's win was even more exciting. Back in the 1970/71 season all teams operated on a fairly similar financial basis. When you consider the hundreds of millions that Liverpool have spent, compared to our far smaller outlay, that just makes yesterday even better. I get the same feeling, that this team is destined for a trophy in the near future. If the board back our brilliant manager this summer, then success will follow.

I was there with my Dad, Butler Street Stand, which means my Dad must've been working on the turnstile there cos that's the only period we went in the Butler St.
I think we were about level with where TC let fly from, probably still my favourite Stoke goal.
Poor Dad used to miss half the match due to having to wait for latecomers and then go and cash up, don't think there was much money about in our house at the time and he must've seen it as the best way for us both to see the games.
We were at all the Arsenal Semi-Final matches/replays bar the Goodison Park one as well, can't remember why we missed that one.

I watched the highlights on ITV's Sunday afternoon football programme that they had in those days. Then me and my mate replayed it with Subutteo several times. We were nine years old. I seem to recall that it was a game when John Farmer was in goal, rather than Banksy.
