As soon as I saw the thread title I thought of Mark Chamberlain and Big Bren.

Worst - John Clarke and Gordon Marshall, and every other game they played come to think of it.

Worst - John Clarke and Gordon Marshall, and every other game they played come to think of it. Now that Gordon Marshall took the piss, I think Kerry Dixon knocked 4 past him in a 6 goal drubbing at Luton then the following week conceded 5 at millwall, awful keeper! I remember commons havin a decent debut at Wednesday.

Tommy Mooney showed plenty of fighting spirit. Right up until he was sent off for an off the ball incident.
Can't remember if that was before or after someone threw a steward down the stairs. Not the finest of away days.

was Carlo Nash debut at Watford? If so then that's a good one, saving a penalty and keeping a clean sheet.

I seem to remember John Devine having a very good debut at Oldham. I remember we scored 4 against a strong Oldham side. Wasn't he brought in to replace Huddy?
Anyone there?

One of my favourite ever games (as stated in a previous thread). Devine was class that day, Phil Heath played out of his skin and scored a wonder goal and Bertschin was in the form of his career. Eric Young unfortunately ended John Devine's career not long after. I seem to remember Leigh Palin having a great debut. In fact he was amazing in every game of his loan spell right up until we made the move permanent and then he turned in to the invisible man.

Yeah, his second debut in 84. I remember we won and he had a blinder but can't remember who it was against despite being there.

Dadason's debut was great, but the most important debut by far was Souleyman Oulare who put his arse in the right place at the right time. That wasn't Olare's debut. He'd made one previous appearance following which he was taken ill and didn't play again for a while until the play-off semi. Didn't he have a blood clot or something really serious like that?

Didn't Adam Rooney score a hat-trick on his debut? I think you're right, away at Brighton under Boskamp? 5-0? Edit, it was 5-1. Just had a look and this was the team: Stoke: Simonsen, Duberry, Hill, Mbuyi, Buxton, Brammer (Garrett 70), Russell, Skoko (Kopteff 83), Dickinson, Rooney (Sweeney 77), Sidibe. Subs Not Used: de Goey, Broomes. ... Who the fuck's Mbuyi?! Don't remember him!

Yeah, his second debut in 84. I remember we won and he had a blinder but can't remember who it was against despite being there. Funny thing is, although I was there, I spent almost 30 years thinking we won 2-0, until my Arsenal supporting work-colleague pointed out it was only 1-0. Maybe I should start a new thread - Things you thought you knew but didn't.

Alleluia, John Tudor, John Tudor. Indeed, best header I've ever seen by a Stoke player, got two goals on his debut against Ipswich. Did he ever score again though?

Didn't he have a blood clot or something really serious like that? Deep vein thrombosis through flying - don't ask me what it is, but I think there was talk that he nearly died. Luckily, he, and more importantly his arse, survived.
