On a matter of principle I always avoid going through turnstiles guarded by a steward. I am not a criminal, or a chancer, or drunk, or in possession of offensive weapons or a dodgy ticket. It rankles me that they look at you as if you could be any of those things and, as far as I am concerned, they have nothing to offer me in terms of service or facilities. So what does my going to a football match have to do with them?

So they allow an idiot to interfere with kick off and run the length of the pitch before a young lady brings an end to his stupidity whilst the male stewards look on. But show their male prowess by bullying a five year old boy. Sorry but there would not have been a two minute silence if it had been my boy. Well done with the restraint.

I don't get how the steward could refuse to let an adult leave the ground. He should of asked nicely and if the steward didn't comply he should of physically made the Stewart open the gates/turnstiles.

Spoken Anthony Emmerson today seems i will receive an email of apology. And hopefully a couple of free tickets wouldn't go amiss. Well ok, but it really isn't about that is it.

Maybe you should put your tartan rug into your shopping trolley for safe keeping Colin, along with your flask and your sandwiches. It would stop any fucker of a dubious nature from choring it.

I solved this problem in 2003 when i lost my rug. I got a extra large carrier bag from my good friend Keith from Greenwoods menswear. My friend Trevor says there was a dodgy looking man behind him at the game and thinks he may of pounced on my rug after seeing me vacate the stadium without it.

You're lucky to have such good friends Waggy. I couldn't leave a rug on my seat and go for pint or a piss in the sink at half time without one of the right freaky fuckers around me having their beady eye on it.

It seems the fact it was a silence hightened the issue they could have comforted my grandson otherwise, the steward told my son to shut up.Thank god the turnstile operator was human. This could have been handled so differently and sensitively. Christ, there are some scumbags on this Earth.

I'm not ordinarily a violent man and I know it solves nothing but I'm afraid I'd have chinned the fucker until he opened the gate and then faced the consequences.

And hopefully a couple of free tickets wouldn't go amiss. Well ok, but it really isn't about that is it. ^^ ?? ^^ An emailed apology really doesn't mean the slightest thing to a 5 year old. Get the Lad back in the ground, through a turnstile (with a turnstile operator who has a brain) as soon as possible.

Pretty sure that's the minimum you will get after all it doesn't cost them anything to give you two tickets. I reckon you might get a few merchandise thrown in and/or upgraded seats. Well that's what I would do anyway.

It seems as though it's not just about this one incident Kev - reading through your thread, it looks like plenty of other folk have found themselves refused entry unnecessarily, good on you for highlighting the problem. As I said at the start of the thread, it's happened to me twice already ... obviously not remotely as stressful as it was for your grandson but still, nevertheless, a real inconvenience and it does beg the question, how often and how many other supporters are falling foul of the inadequacies of the entry system? I think I'll send this thread over to Angela Smith at the Supporters Council. Cheers

Anthony Emmerson has been in touch, offered ther son and grandson free tickets to a match and pitchside treatment pre kick off.
I have to say the club have been very good about this in constant touch with me really over the last two days and obviously realise that a overzealous steward prolonged the issue on the day and are deeply apolgetic.
Well done Stoke this will get a smile on the little lads face next season.

I fucking loathe the stewards down the ground. You only have to look at some of them to imagine what hole they crawled out of, knuckles dragging behind.

I work on the turnstiles and at times when we refuse entry to the ground it is because on the screen it will read NO ENTRY. No reason as to why the entry is refused will appear on our screen but I was told if that was the occur then we are to advise the supporter to speak to a steward with a hand held device which apparently gives the reason as to why the card is not working, always get the operator to attempt the card twice as i have done this before and on the second attempt it works or rub the barcode.
We are only doing what we are told to do we are not jobsworths if we are to let people in when it says no entry is shows on our final count and the job could be in risk when doing this. All we can advise is to see the ticket office or the nearby steward.
Let the child go in first so the child will be able to come out with a steward back to you.
As for the steward being rude I would definitely complain it seems that the turnstile operator tried his best to do what ever he could to help as there is not a great deal that we can do due to needing to get so many people in the ground on time.
I would contact Josh who will deal with the situation and I hope you get it sorted.

Good to see the apology. My dad still talks about my first game (Arsenal 1981) when the bloke told him to lift me over the turnstile when no-one was looking. Footy has changed a bit eh?
