Spurs are organising a clap on 8 minutes to show support. 8 was his old squad number.
Not really a fan of these as they are getting to be every game for one cause it another.
In this case I make an exception

As an honorary Stokie (Stan Matthews testimonial) and a top footballer from his era, he deserves our support. Hope we can join in with Spurs for the 8th minute applause.

What's so sad about Jimmy Greaves is he scored so many goals played so many games but he's ,most remembered for a game he didn't play. I agree. He is one of my all time favorites. Never understood why Sir Alf preferred Roger Hunt to Greaves.

Never understood why Sir Alf preferred Roger Hunt to Greaves. For he final it was Hurst or Greaves. He was proven to be right as well. It would take a hell of a leap of faith to believe Hurst was a better player than Greaves but as Alf explained to Jack Charlton when he was picked for the first time "The thing is Jack I don't always pick the best players!"
