Indeed
Never thought we would get back, let alone stay
And now a stable mid table club
Great times to share with my son and all Stokies
Times to be treasured

Seems longer than that, recall having an interview the following day, stinking of ale and no voice whatsoever.

That was a very tense day. The roar when the final whistle went was amazing.

My dad, now 92, watched Stoke for the first time on his 10th birthday vs Man Utd during the 32-33 promotion season. Yes Man Utd and also Spurs were in the old Division 2 in those days. We often talk about the old Stoke teams and compare them with the present. He is a very sceptical man but now believes the good times are back. He would love to see Stoke win the FA cup before he "goes up to see his mate Stan" as he puts it. Him and Stan Matthews were both trained at an RAF base near Blackpool during WW2 where Stan was a PTI and dad was a bit of a boxer.and he claims they used to go out on the town together. Probably a bit of a tall story as Stan was a good 7 years older than dad.

Stuck at Dover docks coming back to NL and listening to it on the radio waiting for the ferry..... bemused europeans looking at a man on his knees crying with happiness was surreal but I honestly didnt give a shit

What an achievement. From my 1st game in 1994 and through my High School years in the mid-late 90's i had nothing but sh1t from Liverpool, Newcastle and Man Utd fans.
I never, ever thought I would see the day we were top ten, established premier League team. Especially with the green slime at the helm!
Glory days indeed - I feel we just need to win something to cement this era in the fans minds, as one of the clubs greatest.

That goals video is superb. A lump in the throat watching that. Some great goals, and some very important players of their time, that had a massive say in where we find ourselves today.
The only thing that I questioned...at what point in time did Ryan forget how to attack a ball in the opposition box??

But different times, different level of defender against us? Great vid though!! UTP

Never realised Mike Tosser Dean was officiating on that day, thought he might have attempted to shaft us.

I always remember, during the dark days of 1997-1998 season, Peter Coates was not the saint he is now...he was quite often referred to in the Oatcake as the Green Slime. He was absolutely hated - in fact, Blackpool's demo brought back memories our own "invasion" of the Waddington Suite after Brum in 97.

The day his watch packed in! What was it 95 minutes? and then Styles in the return,we really did upset someone that season The second leg is the only game where I have considered a refereeing performance so one eyed, so pathetic, so shambolic that I couldn't in all seriousness rule out corruption, Mutters. Later exposure to Styles work however, simply confirmed it as utter incompetence.

Thought exactly the same mate but like you say he was fuckin useless as was shown when he gave Derby that last minute pen at the Brit in the Quarter final a few years back

25 years ago today my dad took me to my first game as a innocent 3 year old. We'd already been relegated to the third tier under Alan Ball and played out a score draw with Swindon.
I've been going regularly ever since and wouldn't swap it for the world.

My dad had been a supporter since the 1930's but only went to a handful of games in the promotion season due to ill health. He took some persuading to get him to go to the Leicester game, but he eventually agreed.
After the match and back home, my dad cried (something he very rarely did) and told my sister he thought he'd never see the day when Stoke were back in the top flight. It was the last game he ever went to.
