I read this quote in the Report, and having noticed Adam's lack of response after his goal, I wondered if Arnie and Charlie have a problem on or off the field?
"His disappointment at the Scot failing to celebrate with him was heartbreaking"
Comments, anyone?

Comments, anyone? It was nothing really, Arnie was yelling at him to celebrate with him and he just trotted past him. I just thought it was funny.

Very good write up, Rob. I always like to try and disagree with at least one point but simply can't this week!
Extra points for use of the word pratfalls. Challenge for next week, get in a 'chagrin' or a 'discomfiture'!

Excellent report - re Arnie and Charlie maybe the team were expecting a robot celebration and Arnie was reminding him of the fact!
Despite all of the defensive frailties (and this needs addressing) , I believe there would have been less focus on them had we won the game.
Clinical finishing is still letting us down, yes we are missing Bojan but between them our forwards should be converting more chances.
50 points is our next realistic target.

Agree with all that. The extra bit for me is that SJW looks like a spent man at the moment and Hughes appears to be falling in to the same trap of making him undroppable
OK, it highlights no alternatives right wing until Oddie hopefully gets up to speed. But even if he offers nothing going forward he usually offers defensively He did neither lat week or the week before
Wrong to write him off, but it is clear as day he is burnout again. Sparky should not have taken Speedy off and either shoved him out to the right or gone 4 4 2 Either way SJW needed to come of earlier than he did
Right back and right wing should be a key focus this summer

A little harsh on Bego for me. The cross was hit harder and faster than you suggest and it did take a spinning deflection off a dozing Erik on its way into the six yard box. All footballers err - look at Wollschied who seemed to want to give a goal to Sunderland every time he had the ball - but Bego is a fantastic keeper and we should recall the number of points he has actually saved for us with some wonderful saves. For me it was rather our lamentable finishing that cost us the extra two points - we don't score enough goals per game. End of.

We really have to find a way of accommodating Adam in the deeper role somehow.

It looked every inch a routine one to me.

That game sums up this season. Frustration and what might have been.
We are so, so close to having a cracking side, with strength in depth, pace and some guile. I just can't believe how many soft goals we've conceded and how many chances we've missed.
This is no way meant to be a criticism of the team. Quite the opposite. They have done a decent job, especially given the serious injuries to key players and the constant stream of niggling injuries to virtually the whole squad. But, almost since those early points were lost at home, this has been a "what might have been" season.
With a settled confident back 4, and, as Suffolk mentions, new players on the right hand side, we really are on the brink of something. I kind of hope we keep Asmir and that Mame Diouf takes a step forward, and we really have a go next season. We really could be the surprise package if it all clicks.

Brilliant Rob, thanks. Accurate and entertaining. Sometimes modern football can seem like a game of chess to the analysts , about systems, formations and tactical plans. Sometimes I wonder what would happen if we threw the rule book out of the window and took a chance, particularly if the outcome is not life threatening! What I am getting at ......what if we had brought Woolly off and replaced him with Crouch, leaving Diouf and Walters to feed off Crouch, or to get on the end of passes. Obviously we would be exposed at the back, but if we cleared it more efficiently Sunderland would certainly have had their hands full. ( 3-3, 4-1,1-3 ????????)

Bang on the money on so many of the issues arising from that game - Arnie must play on the left, if at all, so we need a new man for wide right; Wollsheid looks less and less like the answer in defence each week (as you say, better Wilson's 90% doing his job than Wolly's less than 50%); Adam gives us more threat going forward from deep, but exposes our creaky defence a maybe a bit too much, particularly against better opposition.
One thing that maybe was not stressed enough was how poor our right side was, with Walters and Cameron simply not justifying their selections. It's nice to see we are being linked with the likes of Wass and Weiser, young right sided players with pace.

I thought we played well enough overall to have won the game easily.
Daft errors from the back gave them most of their chances rather than them creating them as a result from them owning much of the game.
