What's happening with refs at the moment?
Atkinson was pretty decent yesterday (yes really). Clattenburg had an excellent performance vs. Southampton. Roger East was really good against West Ham.
Three games on the trot where we've had next to nothing to complain about with the refs. Three games where the refs have been great.
Don't they realise we're Stoke?

I don't get the Clattenburg love in for the Soton game.
Clyne was as big a red card as you'll see and Pelle was very lucky too. He messed up two massive decisions!

Atkinson just drives me crazy every single time I see him referee
from his 8 yards walls at free kicks to, readily and happily accomodating timewasting - foul throws routinely missed and free kicks never taken from where they actually occured
then, put on all the decisions he gets wrong as well
he just drives me nuts
yesterday was no different

I thought Atkinson favoured us yesterday, lots of little niggly nothings and 50-50's went our way, especially first half.

Atkinson was poor yesterday. He drives me crazy for the same reasons that Tony said. O'Shea should have had a second yellow for punching SJW.

Cattermole should have seen red - second half Twatkinson favoured them, first half he gave us almost everything - quite bizarre. That free kick on our right that he just kept pointing them to go back (and all the rest of their time wasting)...has someone castrated him, he was pathetic Battenburg is probably, now, the best English ref...but that is damning him with feint praise I reckon

Intersting bit of reffing from Atkinson yesterday.
In the first half, Cattermole had just been booked and was charging around like a headless chicken.
First of all, Atkinson pulled Cattermole across to the dugout and warned the manager about him. Then a couple of moments later he pulled Cattermole across to O'Shea and warned him about the situation, as well.
Perhaps he should have just sent him off, or was it good reffing to make his final warning so obvious that it allowed the player to alter his attitude and complete the match.

Remember a few months ago when Shawcross was getting slagged off constantly by the media and every refereeing decision was going against us, Hughes said that the club were going to be speaking to people with influence about this. It was all a bit mysterious, and I've not heard anything further about it, but I wonder if something happened so we're now getting a more evenhanded deal from refs and media alike.

Evenhandedness will not last long as far as we are concerned, mark my words!

On Atkinson, why didn't he send O'Shea off?

On Atkinson, why didn't he send O'Shea off? For the simple reason he didn't deserve to be Don't think he favoured either side yesterday, just let a few 50-50s go which was good to see. A few times first half they went down too easily and he didn't fall for it and eventually they cut it out. Was fair with the yellow cards and only poor decision was calling us back for a free kick when we had a possible break.

Whatever the answer is to that question it's more interesting to me that he didn't take that approach when sending Whelan off at Newcastle for two (hardly even fouls) tackles? The guy makes me sick.
