Bradford requested that all Football league and Premier League clubs have a minutes silence today for the 30th Anniversary and thankfully the request was granted. (Terrible that they had to request it really.)
Awful tragedy and often overlooked.

Minutes silence today? The anniversary is May 11th.

Don't think its such a bad thing they had to request it first, it would probably be worse if the FA were deciding to do this without the involvement of Bradford. Whenever it comes to reflecting and remembering any negative event in footballs past the club themselves should ask for what they see as fitting.
Depending on just how credible some of the claims were in the book that was released recently about their owner at the time as well it may be something that comes back into the fore and gets investigated more thoroughly.

This weekend is the penultimate weekend of the Football League season isn't it? They probably didn't want the silence on the last day of the league season so this weekend seemed sensible.
As to the request - I don't think it is "terrible" that it had to be requested at all - it was the best way to ensure that all clubs commemmorated the event on the same weekend.

It's today as it's Bradford's last home game. I just think that on anniversaries like this, it should be set out from the governing bodies that there will be a minutes silence. I'm sure when Bobby Moore died the FA said there'd be a minutes silence rather than West Ham request it.

Would it be better if the FA took the initiative and asked the club when/how they want to honour it - rather than the club asking permission to honour it..? Leading from the front has never really been the FA's strong point though.
Good to hear that it's being recognised, all the same.

Think it was more of asking Bradford in which date do you want it remembered on the closest game to the event or in the closest home game to the event. Bradford asked for it to be there home game

Well done too, by both sets of fans. Well respected and much better than clapping.

The first roar of the crowd after an impeccably observed minute's silence always seems to have a little more emotional charge to it compared to 'normal' kick-offs.Today was no different.Excellent by both sets of fans.
