Soccer Saturday verdict - Charlie Nicholas "First half, when they were leading, Southampton were the best team. They passed it better, had more quality going forward. "Stoke didn’t play particularly well, but a bit of good fortune for Stoke turned it around. Schneiderlin got the first goal and Southampton should have gone on to get a second. The equaliser was crazy, such a slice of luck. Charlie Adam was offside for the winner too. Very lucky." Stoke: Begovic (7), Cameron (6), Wollscheid (7), Shawcross (7), Pieters (7), Whelan (7), N'Zonzi (7), Ireland (6), Diouf (8), Arnautovic (7), Walters (7) Subs: Bardsley, Sidwell (6), Butland, Teixeira, Crouch (6), Wilson, Adam (8) Southampton: Davis (5), Yoshida (6), Fonte (7), Alderweirald (7), Clyne (7), Schneiderlin (8), Davis (6), Bertrand (7), Mane (8), Tadic (6), Pelle (7) Subs: Gardos, Ward-Prowse (6), Elia (5), Gazzaniga, Reed, Targett, Long (5) Man of the match: Morgan Schneiderlin They've edited that a bit!

I thought the opposite to Charlie Farley. We started really brightly and knocked it about with confidence, playing out from the back. Not always successfully though. We mixed it up quite well over all and deserved at least a point on balance of play and all 3 points on chances missed

They're going mad about it on their board mate Surely not, he was a good 10-12 yards out and they had players on the line? Did the ball not fall to him from a block from one of the soton defenders as well? Sent from my C6603 using proboards

Really poor game, both sides gave the ball away over and over. Players falling over. Terrible shooting.

I thought Shawcross was when he pulled it back to Walters before Charlie hit it but I couldnt make out if the ball to Shawcross hit a Southampton player first.

Well if you look at the pic on the SS app of him striking the ball into the net there's a player in front trying to block his shot and I assume the goalie was on the line so i don't see how he could be offside!

Good, I hope he was! About time we got something go for us. My feelings as well mate Personally, I think it's a crying shame that he wasn't twenty yards offside, having thrown the ball into the net with his left hand while repeatedly kidney-punching Jose Fonte with his right.

You don't have 60 odd percent possession in a game (not today) without being a side capable of passing it around. I wonder how many games he was basing the comment on.

than complimentary about us on Soccer Saturday when summarising after the match. Apparently we are not the passing team we like to suggest we are and we were very lucky today! He's right. Based on today at least. So many pointless punts even before Crouch came on and we were lucky for both goals. Poor keeping if anything. You are having a laugh yes? Bit of irony? Were you at the game? Unbelievable!

"Stoke were very lucky"....pathetic pundit no mention of the crouch miss etc.. "Funny that. The more I practice the luckier I get". Or words to that effect - Arnold Palmer!

Ryan was in an offside position when the cross was hit but the ball never reached him,the defender headed it on. I suppose it comes down to phases or sommet

Onside for me with the 'phase' ruling. Yeah just seen it and he was initially offside but their player won the header albeit he fluffed it and Ryan picked up the loose ball. God knows where they're getting that Charlie was offside? That's why I asked at first as at the game it never even crossed my mind.

I was more intrigued with Diouf's goal. I didn't celebrate at first as I was convinced Clattenburg had blown up for offside, as I think the majority of the players did (and Diouf himself).

I was kidding, I will bother. Both goals were well taken, Mama's reaction drive and Charlie's drive into the ground, both well executed. Don't see how our second was down to poor keeping! For the first you might say he should have done better but hey that's life. I don't remember loads of punts up field and I like to think I focus on the full 90+ minutes. After Crystal Palace and Wet Sham (Arnie's second perfectly good but disallowed goal) we are well overdue a bit of luck. Sweet win today against the media darlings of the Prem, I thought it would never come.

From the media's perspective, Southampton are Arsenal Lite while Stoke are the Third Reich Lite. It doesn't matter what happens in reality, that's the story they are going to tell.
