I live out of the area, and when I return I like a drink in Newcastle town centre. It seems a lot quieter, mainly 40 somethings and well off students being well represented. The big bars look quiet and there doesn't seem as many younger punters as I last remembered. Are younger people's habits changing? Or is the town changing?

I too have moved out of the area and went in to Newcastle last Xmas Eve thinking it would be a throbbing, heaving mass of drunken humanity and scantily clad totty as it used to be on that particular night almost more than any other. In reality it could not have been more dead if it tried. I was also left wondering if the trendy young things have gone somewhere else or are have habits changed to the point where they are all at home on their Smart Phones drinking super market Alco pops and texting pictures of their naked body parts to one another instead. But then you would still need to somehow finish the night with a large doner kebab wouldn't you? It's a strange one

Yeah, most people go up Hanley now... it's a bit shit and there's almost always trouble but it's a far better night out than Castle.

Castle is better on a Friday and Hanley is better on a Saturday. Both shit though

My places of choice are The Old Bulls Head, Lymestone Vaults and the Micro pub in Bridge Street.

There isn't any decent nightlife in Newcastle anymore. The place is almost as run down as Hanley now with no decent bars to speak of these days.

Most young people these days get smashed at home then go into town around 10.

I just remember it being a cracking night out and these days it's looking rough and dead.

Berts Kitchen is where the Azzuri Italian was years ago. A few doors up from Barclays bank. Mainly a Belgian bar. Like I say a bit pricey but well worth a visit. Often have live bands on at weekends aswell.

The thing I hate about Newcastle is that since Zanzibar and Metropolis closed it doesn't have a single nightclub, just a load of very cramped bars.
