Maybe john Hartson is Bowen's Ghost writer. Bowen does come from the area so maybe he is a closet Swansea fan either way bigging up the opposition I thought had left along with the previous manager.

Playing to his home crowd nationality wise I suppose but some very strange phraseology in there. Oh and Garry Monk (two fucking r's, I ask you) is a wanker.

very weird but in all fairness Swansea have been quite successful in the past couple of years and have played good football throughout their Premier League time.
They have good players but I wouldn't say they are the bench mark, we are the same level, they don't have a keeper of Bego's quality, Williams is reliable but I'd rather have Ryan. N'Zonzi or Shelvey? Bojan or Sigurdsson?
There's nothing in it

Swansea have a better set of wingers than us
overall looking at the two squads it's probably about the same over all.

I'd put the teams as even like we've both said, don't imagine we will get a win at their place, would be happy with a point

Perhaps he's referring to the fact they won a cup competition and had a 20 goals per season striker?

Perhaps he's referring to the fact they won a cup competition and had a 20 goals per season striker? Yet we finished 8 points above them last season. Really can't see why before this season started, our aim was to emulate Swansea. (Although, as it turns out, finishing in a similar place to Swansea this season should represent a top 10 finish)

crikey, having now seen the Advertisement machine in action on the South Wales Evening Post I won't complain quite so much about the Evening Sentinel web site On the point of substance I think it is just standard good practice when returning to your home town club and speaking to the local press to pay them a huge compliment before hopefully turning the hapless clowns over in their own manor and chuckling to yourself all the way home on the coach!

He would never say it. They actually won a cup and did it playing football at a fraction of the cost against us falling short, playing dog shit football all for 100 million quid.
He might say it in 5 years when he sees it as a bonus game.

He's speaking to a Welsh newspaper, so will be very favourable to the local team. It's called media management, which involves people saying whatever makes the audience happy.
It always amazes how many people are bothered by what players or staff saying. In an age of media management and PR it matters fuck all.

It's a soundbite for the home town paper. I cannot see how it matters much.

Really can't see why before this season started, our aim was to emulate Swansea. (Although, as it turns out, finishing in a similar place to Swansea this season should represent a top 10 finish) A few reasons to emulate them: - They won some silverware - They played in the Europa League (due to the cup) - They play decent football - They develop talented players then sell them on for big profit - They recruit well from Europe and they did all that without spending crazy money, they spent big on Bony but it certainly paid off.

In terms of winning something and not semi wasting the big money they spent, they are!

It always amazes how many people are bothered by what players or staff saying. In an age of media management and PR it matters fuck all. Correct on all counts. The article and the view reported will have precisely zero bearing on the outcome of the fixture or where either club finishes. The need to fill column inches and endless air time increases exponentially the opportunity for meaningless and pointless comment - in football and well beyond. There will be plenty of such nincompoopery on telly at 8.00 this evening, for example. Did Bowen really sit down with Hughes and say "Swansea are the barometer?". No, he didn't.

They used their leverage of being in Europe to get Bony; we bought Crouch. As much as I like Crouchie, I think the Bony deal showed more ambition and forward thinking.
