www.stokesentinel.co.uk/Stoke-City-transfer-rumours-Potters-trail/story-26258759-detail/story.html?STOKE City are rivalling West Ham and Crystal Palace for the signing of defensive midfielder Lucas Romero, report the Sun. Romero has apparently caught the attention of European scouts thanks to his performances for Velez Sarsfield in the Argentine top division. The 20-year-old, who has turned out for his country's under-20s side, has been dubbed "Baby Mascherano" for his work sweeping up in front of defence. In the nickname-hungry world of Latin American football, he also goes by the name of "El Perro" aka "The Dog". Romero has already been linked with Brazilian clubs Flamengo and Cruzeiro over the winter as Velez look to sell players to balance the books. Sounds promising. Although the link is originally from the Sun.

Work Permit must be a problem surely. Im sure Greg Dyke will block it unless Arsenal or Chelsea want him

Young, unknown defensive midfielder from South America? I can't see a single thing that could go wrong with this

Has anybody on here even thought about the possibility of this player getting a work permit?

What about that 'promising player' crap? The rule will be scrapped starting from this summer according to Greg Dyche. It will be nearly impossible to sign young promising players from outside the EU.

What about that 'promising player' crap? The rule will be scrapped starting from this summer according to Greg Dyche. It will be nearly impossible to sign young promising players from outside the EU. Well that's a pain! Seems to be really highly rated: Every Football Manager player knows of Lucas Romero; the Argentine midfielder represents one of the best bits of business you can do in the transfer market. He’s going to cost you around £5-7 million depending on when you target him, but for that you will get one of the most complete midfielders around. At the start of the game Romero’s lowest mental stat is 12 for the off the ball, which is frankly ridiculous in one so young. He is already an excellent player, and with time he is only going to get better and better. The best thing about Romero is that he can fit any role in your side, so he’s worth signing whether you need an anchor, an attacking midfielder a deep-lying play-maker, a ball winner or a box-to-box player. For so many sides versatility is key as they look to fight their way up the table, and someone like Romero can make all the difference. He has all the ability to play at the highest level, but at the same time is prepared to join sides well below the elite. Given that Arsenal are crying out for a defensive midfielder right now, Romero would appear to be the perfect option; a player who can act as a shield in front of the defence and develop under Arsene Wenger. If Manchester United are looking at bringing in another midfielder, Romero should be a target, and he would be a big upgrade on Lucas Leiva at Liverpool despite the Brazilian’s good form. That seems to be the way round the work permit problem - unless UKIP win the General Election, of course!

Had a lovely day on the quiet slopes of Galtur too. Yes, the skiing at Galtur is very quiet isn't it? Or it was when we were there. Glad you had a good time. I'm as likely to end up playing for Stoke in the Champions League as I am to vote UKIP - a liberal, leftie, commie, pinko that's me!

How would he get a work permit - unless, like many South Americans, he also has a European Passort? Could he get a Spanish passport? 60% of Argies are wholly or partly descended from Italians Source Wikipedia. So an Italian passport would be most likely.

Ive got a few feelings on this.
1) We want Nzonzi to sign asap, so a link to a young DM in the press wont do any harm in encouraging him.
2) Nzonzi has disclosed he perhaps wont sign/is looking to leave and we are already looking for a replacement.
3) We are losing a defensive midfielder elsewhere and finding a replacement (Adam? Geoff?)
4) We are just after an extra player.
5) Its made up agent talk to get his name out there.
Either way, interesting link
