At the age of 7 1976/77 went with my dad and saw us lose 1-0 to Leicester. If I remember right goal was late on by Worthington. Was broken in gently the season before with Crewe v Workington. Always remember the black guy selling lottery tickets in the ground.

Re the photo of Wayne Biggins for Rob's story - is that Rob's stalkerish hands reaching out to grab the topless Bertie?

Re the photo of Wayne Biggins for Rob's story - is that Rob's stalkerish hands reaching out to grab the topless Bertie? I saw him last weekend during my shameful venture into prawn sandwich territory in the 1863 Lounge. Had to put my hands in my pockets.

I was about 6 but I don't remember a thing. It must have been around 1967 or 68 but my dad doesn't remember it either . I can't remember any game before an away game at Blackpool, probably in 1970, I must have been about 8 years old. Then it was that friendly game against Santos, Banks vs Pele. And I remember a young woman near me in the Stoke End getting knocked unconscious by a bullet shot that went into the crowd, even though I don't actually remember the actual game itself. Is 53 too young for dementia? Most of my favourite memories are from the 1980s: watching Chambo tear up and down the wings, Carl Saunders with all that promise, Hudson in his second stint, me and my dad sneaking into the away end against Liverpool to avoid the queues and catch the kick-off. That was when we beat them 2-0 or 2-1: it was quite funny seeing how upset the Scousers were at close hand and watching Souness' dismay as the second goal went in was something that is burned into my memory. But there's nothing worse than a suppressed mental!

November 1962 v Portsmouth. I now know it was the centenary season and we got promoted back to Div 1 as champions. Frankly, as I was only 4, I remember nothing about the game itself. I do remember sitting on a crush barrier on the Town End (as my father always called it) and being really cold.
We left when the score as 2-1. I was probably playing up but my memory is that we went to the car via the terraced houses around the ground and a woman saw me walking with my dad and said "have they won duck?" "2-1", I replied. At that point there was a big roar and I remember my dad saying " I think it's 3-1now"
That''s about it really but from then on I was hooked and I did the same thing to my own children. I now look forward to indoctrinating my grandchildren. There's nothing like it.

28th February 1970, my 9th birthday treat, a 2-2 draw against the dirty Shit. Harry Burrows and Denis Smith scored my first Stoke goals. 38,000 in the Vic, wooden seats in the Butler St, stand (with it's roof still on) transfixed by the Boothen End, the bright green of the pitch and those contrasting red and white stripes. Hooked ever since.

Stoke City vs Tranmere Rovers, September 1994.
My older brother took me to my 1st ever SCFC game, in the Boothen to boot. It was for my 12th birthday. He marched me to the ground to see "a proper team" after I foolishly declared I was a Fail fan!
Game was terrible, I believe we lost and have the program and lots of old pictures. I had never seen so many people, and the noise-WOW. I also remember the sheer anticipation when Steino got the ball!
Very very good memories! Hooked ever since and a season ticket holder since 2000.
Good and bad, I'll always be with you SCFC

2nd Nov 1964 at home vs Burnley I was ten years old. We were trouncing them 3-0 at half time then at start of second half Eddy Clamp stuck the nut on their winger John Connelly and got sent off, well actually he walked off before the ref could run over to the carnage. That spurned Burnley into a comeback and the game ended 4-4 after Tony Allen had scored an own goal for their equaliser. Strange thing was our next home game vs Sheff Wed ended in a similar fashion after leading 3-1 at half time they hit back for another 4-4 draw. Happy days indeed and half a crown, or 12.5p, admission for youngsters in the Boothen. Can still smell the aroma of tobacco and pies now.

Getting crushed being pushed through the turnstiles at the old Stoke End. Knowing my dad he probably didn't pay for me and pushed me through the same time as him! Probably 6 or 7 maybe younger. Cannot remember the game, who we played or the score. Remember a ten mile hike to the bogs at the bottom at the back of the Stoke End. Was like climbing a mountain up and down for a young un. Might have had a bottle of pop which was a real treat those days. "You were lucky....." Away fans in the same area and some fisticuffs! No matter the result or who we played. It was exciting being out with your dad! Fact is mum probably made him take me!

Boxing Day v Liverpool 1975. I was in shock at the number of people there. Age 12 I saved up my paper round money and travelled with my mate on Greatrex coaches from Stafford. Been going ever since!

Losing to Blythe Spartans, but the colours were nailed to the mast and never looked back. It's only been upwards since that game then. Because that was the lowest low for me in all my time as a Stokie - which started in April 1974 with a 1-0 win against Spurs (still got the programme!). Sat in the Stoke End corner of the Butler Street Stand and I'm sure that was the end Stoke scored that day. Other than that no memories - but it clearly made an impression!

Mine was March 82' to witness Stoke losing 1 - 5 to the Liverpool. I was an excited 8 year old I was going to see Sammy Mcllroy and Kenny Daglish play, we were all Mcllroy and Daglish in the school yard. My friends Dad who had taken us decided to leave before the end of the game. I remember hearing a roar as we were walking out and became split from them, I wanted to know whether Stoke had scored a 2nd. Amongst the crowd my only worry was how would I get back home. They found me after a few minutes, it had felt much longer but all was well. Along with being my first Stoke game it became the only time I have ever left before the end of a match.

Coventry in the FA Cup the year they won it. I remember thinking that the authorities would have to step in and order a replay because it was so unfair that they'd won.

1967 v Blackpool 2-0 victory for Stoke I remember it was goalkeeping legend Harry Greggs 2nd and last appearance for Stoke Blimey Harry I remember that game now, Blackpool had a cracking player at the time who I think was called John Green. My first visit to the Vic was for Sir Stans testimonial, been hooked ever since. I remember a game where David Herd scored in front of the Boothen when the ball went in off his derriere a la Soulemine Oulare style, still didn't stop him celebrating as if he had scored a worldy, happy times.

Drew 0-0 against Bolton at home in the '92-93 promotion season. Rooster hit the post twice. We had met Bolton fans in Spain and they came down for the game. Started going regularly later on that year and we beat Bradford 3-1 in my second game and all I remember was the ref getting hit in the gonads

That's him Cobham, played as a winger inside forward type, had bags of quality, I also think that was the year Blackpool got themselves relegated.
