If Bego had been world class LAST SEASON then there would have been more clubs putting in bids for him as he entered the last year of his contract. As a world class player enters the last year of his contract big clubs know that they are going to be able to buy world class talent at bargain basement price. The only concrete bids we received were from Villa - and Chelsea, who wanted him as back up to their number 1. That simply isn't what happens when a world class talent, at an age when he should be in his prime, enters the last 12 months of his contract at a middle rank Premier League club. He was approaching World class a couple of years back but last season he simply didn't live up to that billing. I think he's taken his eye off the ball (see what I did there?) and paid the price by not getting the dream move to number 1 spot at a top club. Unfortunately we've paid the price for his poor form as well - but the consolation is that we will lose little or nothing as Butland takes over. bego backup for guzan? Doubt it... Given was ahead of him last year so is given better than bego?

Well said Fornside. Perhaps you'll have better luck showing Bayern the errors in his thinking. But I hope you're ready to spend some time on the argument, because Bayern appears to have no other life and he doesn't give up easy.

I'm close to 70 - life's too short to waste that amount of time on ANYTHING let alone Bayern!

To an actual world class keeper, Bego would struggle to be in the top 5 in the Prem, I say struggle, he isn't in the top 5, that's not saying he's shit but he isn't world class, he could be though, I'm surprised he's happy at being a no 2 though.

Whether Begovic is or was or will be world class is a matter of opinion.
What astonishes me is just what a bad goalkeeper he is now made out to be by many since he was sold!

I'd put De Gea, Courtois and maybe Cech ahead of him. I don't like Lloris, now he does make too many errors and has done it season after season. Joe Hart comes close. Other than that none really enter my thinking.

Begovic never has been, or never will be "World Class". funny u say that once he's left the club! I didn't see u putting that on here when he was still here... He's world class IMHO! Is bojan world class after having 1 bad season? Was Michu? so is bego not after having 1 bad one? Everyone was hailing him before last season, stating his value as 20m+...

"maybe Cech ahead of him" oh wow. Lloris too many mistakes ?????????????????? # I can see why Cech is contentious but I think he's been a pale imitation of the bloke he was before his bump on the noggin'. He's got a lot better again in these last 18 months though. I just don't see what people see in Lloris at all. He's far too erratic and always has been. He was definitely at fault for one goal vs us and my shite memory is letting me down to be sure on a second. And he makes errors like that far too often. I just don't rate him and never have done since he moved over.

Begovic never has been, or never will be "World Class". As a world cup participant that makes you wrong! I think you should look up the definition of "world class" Playing in a world cup does not make you world class. It makes you a player who played in a world cup. So that makes Alireza HAGHIGHI (the Iran keeper) world class? (coincidentally conceded the same number of goals as Begovic at the World Cup) And on that note, why did we let WORLD CLASS Palacios leave on a free???????????????????? (wave)

No matter how good Begovic was he's still fucked off to happily sit on the bench play the odd game and earn a shite ton of cash. He's not going to be more successful it's all about the money

It's pathetic.
