Same again there though really, they supposedly want a goalkeeper who's good with his feet. I could see Lloris going on to bigger things and Bego going to Spurs. Begovic was all set to move to spurs before coming here, so much so that he was having a medical there only for stipe pletikosa walk through the door as a back up in case bego failed, bego thought it was an insult and thought spurs didn't show him much confidence so he cancelled and signed for us instead, what I'm tryin to say is I can't see him at spurs. Different set up now though isn't it?

Bego's contract situation has 'move' written all over it. I have to agree

I'm really not too bothered if he doesn't sign and he moves on this summer. I know he has been great for us these past few seasons and without him we'd definitely have finished a few places lower in the table (maybe not so much this year). But we have a quality young keeper in Butland who has performed well out on loan in the Championship and is ready for the Premier League.
Butland will no doubt make mistakes initially but Begovic was a bit shaky to start off with too.
We'd probably get around £8-10 million for Begovic and that money would really help us out this summer.

I'm not overly bothered whether he signs or not but one thing is that I don't want it dragging all summer. We need to set him a deadline of the end of June to decide what he wants to do.

Bego's contract situation has 'move' written all over it. I have to agree Isn't this just a case of there being less to it than meets the eye. Papers have to fiind something to fill column inches with so a trawl of players entering last year of their contracts is a good place to start. Hughes:- "Bego - we're coming up to that time - will you be up for re-signing - Im sure we can do a deal?" Bego:- "Well boss - I'm happy here but if I'm ever going to make a big move this is the one" Hughes:- "I understand that - but be careful what you wish for - there's little time to grow into a role when you're in the spotlight at a "big" club - and don't I know it - Look I've just signed up and I've got the backing of the board to move us on - an I want you to be a part of that?" Bego:- "I'm hearing you - lets talk again at the end of the season when that's taking shape and we're both away from the day to day." It's pretty much what Hughes has said and it's also pretty plausible. If someone makes Bego an offer he can't refuse the he may well take it - but I'm not that sure he's going to get one. There's no Italian club bar Juventus that's anywhere near stable, Real and Barca are out of his league and Athletico couldn't afford him, he's not Top 4 in England (IMHO) which leaves Liverpool (who everyone seems to want to leave) Spurs, or the likes of Dortmund (out of Europe next season) or Leverkeusen, Shalke etc where he might play in the Champions League groups stages but would probably get paid less. So I'm not sure where the "big move" actually is.

Bego's contract situation has 'move' written all over it. I don't think it really matters if he does move based on his form this season.

Form is temporary, class is permanent. Not sure I can believe people are saying it's ok for Bego to go because he has had a slightly indifferent season. Although I'm not sure it's been as bad as all that, he made some brilliant saves at the weekend.

He's a top keeper but te really top ones like De Gea and Lloris are consistent. Not convinced Asmir is.

I believe we will rue the day he goes
He is a top class goalkeeper who will be hugely difficult to replace by a club with our resources

One of our resources is arguably the best young English 'keeper. Butland won't won't another season just playing Cup games and if we lose him bang goes our succession plan. I'd rather keep N'Zonzi, get a good money for Bego and spend it on an outfield player who'll help us push on.

We have a ready made replacement got asmir, we'll have to spend a good 10 mil to replace nzonzi

He'd be a massive loss even if he hasn't been as good for the whole of this season but I wouldn't be surprised if it would end up as another Mignolet type of signing (for whoever eventually signs him). At clubs like Stoke, it's easier for us to remember the world class saves over the mistakes but at a bigger club, it's often the other way round as expectations are higher.

We'll be a far weaker team when Bego goes.
Don't be so ridiculous

I've got a Lamborghini in my drive, considering selling it to pay for a Vauxhall Nova.

In the end I suppose it comes down to whether you think Butland is ready to do the job.
If he is then fine, if not we would have to invest most all of the Begovic money to purchase an equivalent keeper.
I haven't seen enough of Butland to even begin to form an opinion on that question.

I've said it all along that I think Bego is a fantastic goalie, but I think Butland deserves the chance to fulfill his potential. This can only be done by playing games at the highest level, so for me one of the two must go! For the right price of course!

Here's an idea, instead of selling Begovic let's stop jizzing ourselves about filling in a measly corner and focus on front of house development?

We are not poor, so why can't we afford to keep Bego and buy a decent striker?

This is true - we need to see if Jack is up to it otherwise we would end up buying another not as good goalie with the money not a striker. Plus really good strikers are always dearer than any goalie

I think with half a season in the Prem, Butland would become a cracking keeper. Begovic to leave this summer for me

I think bego will sign a contract and move on in jan. Just a sneaky feeling I have. He's a decent bloke so will sign a contract so we get a good pay off but will then move Madrid for mega money. As you can tell I've thought this through

I Don't have anything against Butland but I'm against the idea of letting what I believe to be our best player go but he's made it clear he hopes to play champions league so its wether we can keep him....
