Smashed the magic 40 points with TEN games to spare, and in some tremendous form too. You've managed to piece together a depleted squad with some very untimely injuries notably to our skipper and main playmaker and with no complaining about it either. You've gone about your business and it's remarkable how good you've made us.
Take a bow guys, you're a credit to your profession and you've made thousands of Stokies very happy (and smug) indeed.

Agreed. Tremendous. Makes me even more proud to be a Stokie, than I already am!

There's a great change in attitude. A few years ago this board would have been full of posts suggesting that having reached 40 points it was job done. The players knew it and would ease off, the fans knew it, we would be all over here asking if we now might play expansively, or try out some younger players - almost pleading with Pulis to use these as experimental games.
But now, you feel that this is not job done, but still work in progress with an aim to fulfill. Bruce suggested that Stoke would not be motivated against Hull, since we were mid-table with nothing to play for and nothing to worry about. Not so. Hughes, Bowen, et al have this squad motivated, target driven and already playing expansively, not afraid to go long if necessary, but always looking for the win.
Hughes deserves tremendous credit. It is a different culture and the club, players and even the fans have been drawn in to it.

After all, each place in the final table is worth a £million or so to the club - it would make sense if a significant chunk of that was paid out in bonuses to the squad.

Brilliant post.
Manger and management team of the season for me.
No doubt Mourinho will get it because he wins the league with a 6billion pound team! Try it with our squad big bollox and the injuries!
Go On Stoke

That team last night had everything. Spirit when needed, fight when needed, and the ability to put the ball in the back of the net. The futures bright, the futures Hughsie! I am getting truly excited by the way we are playing, but last night we played a team who came for three points and got none. Stoke didn't get the praise on the radio going home, but I thought they were magnificent!

Glad we've finally got a manager who knows the game inside out. With the constraints placed on him since the millionaire early days we really have achieved a tremendous amount. (queue the TP brigade I've got the keep net ready)

That points total is a complete and utter irrelevance. We have grander ambitions and better players than that. The management and players don't acknowledge it (Hughes totally ignored it on Saturday and Begovic did the same last night) so it's about time we stopped seeing 40 points as some kind of achievement.
