No and as usual a none story from the Mail, Webb already works for the the Elite Refs Group or whatever it's called

One former referee (Hackett) has called for Webb to come out of retirement. So although the story is accurate, the headline of the article is misleading - but the title of this thread is even more misleading.

This would be a massive plus for the Premiership. He was by far the best referee in England (despite those who suggested he was pro-Man Utd). He was a superb ref and the only one who I was happy to have reffing our games.

Leave him where he his, big club bias Rubbish. Was the best ref in England and probably brought the average number of correct decisions curve up for the rest of those plums considering how good he was compared the rest.

If there is any truth to this whatsoever, they need to fuck him off and go and offer Collina a decent wedge to come out of retirement and become the chief ref and trainer in this country.

When he is on the pitch it's all about him, typical dibble attitude, showed a lot of bias to the shit, drop clangers on the world stage. Wonder why he retired when he did.?

The Man United bias is a load of nonsense, the reason it got highlighted all the time was purely because everyone hates United so much. For me he always just called stuff as he saw it. Don't remember to many clangers on the world stage. He missed De Jongs Kung fu kick admittedly but his line of sight was obstructed. The best referee this country has had for a long time.

I don't put all the blame on the refs. Yep, they are wank but not being able to ref with common sense is what fucks it up.
RAF mentions Collina who was fucking brilliant and he reffed with common sense rather than worrying about the assessors were thinking.
The game is ruined because it's too easy to get people sent off for simple and harmless fouls. Whelan at Newcastle last year just showed what a farce it can be.

The officials are not the cause of gamesmanship in the modern game, but in many cases they are the victims of it.

Show bias towards big clubs - get top marks from big clubs - ref more games involving big clubs - earn more money.
And there you have the biggest reason as to why refereeing standards are so low. How on earth anyone expects a referee to do a good job when his head is clogged up with thoughts of what Wenger, Mourinho, Van Gaal etc think i don't know.
And because it's all about pleasing the big clubs and media, the monitoring of standards isn't as strong as it should be. The best league in the world (apparently) allows players to he ruled offside within their own half for example.

Howard Webb was a good ref, always liked him when he was involved in our games, controls the players well enough, they know where the line is with Webb.
The ManUre stuff is bollocks IMO, got a decision or two wrong against one of United's rival clubs and everyone made out he was Fergie's puppet ref
