Sunderland's season is going from bad to disastrous.
They've only got 3-4 good players, and they've got this shitstorm around one of 'em

Finished.
IF proven guilty he's had it as a footballer, no chance he can recover from that.
IF he's proven innocent, in football, he's going to have to have broad shoulders, he's going to get ripped to pieces!

Well we don't know anything as yet, but bloody hell. We don't but I find it odd that they have have outright named him. You would have thought they would have kept a lid on it unless they have some severe concrete evidence. With all that happened in the Ched Evans case all prosecuted names should be kept in the dark until the person involved has been found guilty. Either way the stigma attached to him now his career is all but over.

He has only been arrested and clearly there are two sides to this story. Let's not entirely rule out the possibility that he may be innocent

True. Logic Remy was arrested for a rape accusation.*
Actually, what happened to that one?
*so it can blow over in the shortish term.

If guilty will he become forever known as "statutory rapist Adam Johnson"?

Why, has he been arrested for rape? Sex with an under 16 year old is statutory rape.

It would not surprise me at all to find out he picked her up in the VIP Section of some club where she has managed to look older and get in.
Getting laid is an absolute minefield these days

Why, has he been arrested for rape? Sex with an under 16 year old is statutory rape. Thanks for clearing that up. The law, in this country, is indeed an ass. Set by scurrilous zealots , and, in some cases, true paedophiles. Overpaid privileged buffoons.

If they had not suspended him I doubt he would have been in a fit state to train and play and he would have faced almost intolerable barracking from opposition fans - and that would probably be the case whether he is innocent or guilty. EDIT: I see Werrers has said much the same as me.

I was only saying at the weekend that Sunderland look primed for relegation with the emotionally unstable, Poyet in charge.
This will surely cut the odds further whatever the outcome.

Sex with an under 16 year old is statutory rape. No its not Sex with someone under the age of consent is generically called statutory rape. Might not be an official legal term, but in common speech.

'Suspended' as a word makes it sounds like 'we wash our hands of you before you cause us any embarrassment', though. Perhaps something like 'placed on leave' would make it sound a bit less like there's a presumption of guilt (but then I'm not a legal/business terminology expert...) I certainly don't think he'd be wanting to play either, I mean that he probably feels shit enough without thinking everyone's busy publicly disowning him, so to speak

Sex with an under 16 year old is statutory rape. No its not Yeah - I think "statutory rape" is an American term. In the UK, if you have sex with someone under 16 but over 13 which is consensual I believe it's the offence of sexual activity with a child. Probably irrelevant semantics for these purposes though.
