I saw him at Wembley at the Olympics for Team GB and I have to say he was excellent. Players don't become shit overnight and perhaps Hughes can trawl a bit of form out of him. #justsaying You're right, hes become shit over an entire career.

Has he really? Can't say I've noticed any difference. Yeah because you've made your mind up about Whelan regardless of how he's actually playing. True, bit like others with Diouf, Arnie and Wolly.

Far, far away from being the "next calibre" of player we crave. In fact if whoever we're contemplating signing hasn't played for Barcelona and hasn't got a Champions League winners medal they can took off.
Scholes out.

Tom cleverly is shit
Outside of the class of 92 no utd player had left to do anything special
And to be honest no utd first academy first teamed has left and been decent since then.
Utd academy is overrated

I haven't really paid much attention to him at Villa this season. I take it he's been shite? Personally though, I've always liked Cleverley. Has got a lot of unjust criticism in the past IMO.
However, the only possible position I could see him playing in our side is N'Zonzi's and he isn't as good, so I couldn't see any sense in us signing him.

Defensive midfield certainly isn't the easiest position. It requires discipline and the ability to read the game so that you are in the right place when needed. Only a few players in our squad read a game skilfully.

Maybe if Sidwell is leaving, Cleverly would be an upgrade as a sub mid??

Yeah funny. Geoff Cameron, who is dog shit, came in and did it perfectly OK. Chelsea have a Centre Half playing there as we speak and they are pissing on Spurs. Easiest position on the pitch to play. To quote some sage words from a certain poster on another thread: There really is some utter utter rubbish posted on here by people who you'd think should know better. "Easiest position" my arse!

He will look far better playing for Wigan athletic when they go back into the non league system In that case he should sign for QPR. He'll be in the conference league next season.

Stephen Ireland was shit at Villa, Victor Moses looked good at Wigan but didn't do much since. He might be worth a look on a season long loan.

Thought he looked good at Watford and even better at Wigan. Not since though. Thought he was lined up for Everton. On loan maybe as,maybe,we could help him improve. We need to add some goals to our midfield and I can't see Cleverly doing that.

Yeah because he is a defensive midfielder...... While what i said was very much tongue in cheek, any midfielder worth his salt can play that position. You sure? Could Platini or Ireland or Bojan or Zola play that role?

Cleverly is excellent out wide, yet I think he doesn't want to play there.
He could certainly be another David Bentley. Should be a No.10 but is ever quite good enough and ends up out wide.

I remember quite liking him at Wigan but he seems to have become locked into the pass it sideways and get nowhere midfielder world which we are covered for , I would prefer a Charlie upgrade , we desperately need a midfield player who can give us a few goals

Stephen Ireland was shit at Villa, Victor Moses looked good at Wigan but didn't do much since. He might be worth a look on a season long loan. Ireland wasn't shit at Villa. He was player of the season in his first year and then Lambert froze him out, presumably because of his massive wages. Moses was rarely given a chance at Chelsea but when he was, and again at Liverpool, he looked ok. Cleverley was regularly wank at The Shit (but still got in the England team) and has then gone on loan to a wank and desperately struggling Villa team and still can't get in the side. Nuff said. PS it was Ireland's second season he was P.O.T.S.

Well Platini was a world class player so yes he could of played the role with his eyes shut. Bojan and Zola are/were forwards so not true midfielders and so to some extent is Ireland. Easiest position on the pitch - FACT. Name me another.

PS it was Ireland's second season he was P.O.T.S. mate, when Ireland came to Villa we thought we had a great signing, he turned out to be a dud, the season he got player of the season was the 'unmentionable's' season and to be honest you could of put all the names in a hat and picked at random ,that season was mind-numbingly boring ,his last start for us was v Bradford in the semi final CC Cup that display summed up his time at Villa, but to be fair to him he is just one of a very long list of decent players ruined at The Villa, as for Clev he gets dog's abuse at VP, largely undeserved in my opinion, he was signed as a holding midfielder and as such people should expect a large amount of sideways or backwards passes but a lot of them expect him to be the new Zidane which he aint, would he improve your midfield, doubtful, would he be decent back up ,yes but i cant see him wanting that as he still thinks he can do better and the way things are going at villa there is 0% chance of him wanting to sign permanantly !
