Suck it up one more time Lawro No arguments with the starting X1, we dominated a scrappy game while clearly feeling the lack of our two most talismanic players, and the winning goal was down to two subs - not a lot to argue with really, job done Mr Hughes and cheers. 8* from me add * if you were at the Brit please?

11 as usual.
Got everything, including the substitutions absolutely spot on.
Top manager.
If the crowd can crank it up a notch or 10, 7th place is on.

He made the correct call with Charlie rather than Sidwell
Crouch maybe could have come on earlier
I also like the way he doesn't use all 3 subs for the sake of it.

He did everything right against a tactical black hole. Too negative for the last 10 mins, but even the worst sides always have 10 minute spell.

Arnie for Moses in the second half should have been a swap as Moses seemed to lack the nous to go past the full back today.

Totally dominated Hull who were on a bit of a run before this match, hard to see how. Defence were largely untroubled, midfield for the first and last 10 minutes struggled with their extra man there, but then dominated. Wrong game for Diouf, there was little space in behind because we were building the play up slowly and Hull were cowering away just in front of their box (where have we seen that before?). Crouch and Adam were the perfect substitutions for the game, as Maninasuitcase says though, Moses could have been brought off - another less than impressive performance from him (albeit if we have signed him for £7m I'm pleased!).

8 - We always looked the better side, but we lacked the ability in front of goal to kill them off. His substitutions were as good as ever. Finally, we showed the ability to beat a side who came to the Brit to park the bus, and that for me is a good sign that we are heading in the right direction.

8 from me which is mainly due to a very poor 1st half and i think Sparky had the same lethargy as the players because the 1st time he moved from the bench was on 41 minutes 52 seconds.

Can do no wrong. He's a man's manager - doesn't rant and rave at his players, talks to them, explains what he wants and they listen. He has total respect.
Love the way he slaughters each linesman as well.

Correct team, sublime substitutions but he must take some of the blame for the way we came out the dressing room and as mutts tightly said it took him nearly a half to show something himself. 7 from me

Very astute subs who obviously changed the game, but very lacklustre first-half. 8/10.

9* from me.
For some reason my post on this thread last night seems to have disappeared. Anyway, I thought he was right to start with the team that beat Villa and he certainly made the right subs at the right time. I did wonder whether Arnie should have been brought on when Crouch came on to provide better service to Crouch but Adam provided the perfect ball within minutes and Moses seemed to perk up towards the end of the game so I can't really fault Hughes at all. Hull looked like we did in away games a few years back and had possibly looked at the way Villa and Leicester escaped with all three points after parking the bus at the Brit early in the season - this time we were more prepared and didn't fall for the tactic.

10 from me. Early doors, this is a game we would probably have drawn or lost. As difficult as it is for the supporters to stay calm, he's taught the players to be patient when playing against sides who pack their defence. That game was far more difficult to win than a game against teams with better players who play more openly. No, it's not pretty, but it's effective. And given our horrendous run of injuries, I'm amazed he's still able to get the best from the remainder of the squad. I was indifferent to Hughes's appointment, but IMHO he's turning out to be a top, top manager.
OS.

Bringing on Charlie was forced on him, and, in current form and at home, Crouch should certainly have started. This was yet another deadly dull home game. The tactic seemed to be to play the ball sideways across the defence until Hull had had plenty of time to organise themselves and then launch a long ball forwards in the vain hope that Diouf might run on to it. The only bright point was that we won. 5*
