Crouchy is worth every penny of his free transfer, but no way was that Palacios worth the 18 million we paid for him.

Yes, also interesting that Stoke City is his longest served club and I think by the end of next season he'll be close to playing double the amount of games for Stoke than he has for anyone else.
Crouchie is a Stokie!

Spread the fee over the amount of time he has been at the club plus the fact that signing an England international raised the profile of the club, defo value for money .

Hang on! Where are all the people who were mortified that he'd been offered a 2 year extension??? The people who you would have thought were paying for his wages themselves, where are they??? Well I didn't comment at the time but I would have been one of them. I'd still say it now I can't see how you can justify a top wage on a bit part squad player. Never been a fan of the bloke, top professional and probably a better player than any of our other current strikers. It don't take a lot to say that mind. We're doing really well and nobody's more pleased about that than me but the squad is in need of some major reinvestment. We really need a quality goalscorer and I just hope Crouch isn't meant to be it.

Crouch has been superb. I thought the fee when we bought him was a tad over priced but you can't argue with what he has given us. Proper pro and well worth the money. I hope when he packs in the playing he stays with us in some form or another. He has done himself proud in his time as a footballer and it would be great to have him as a senior, former player saying the right things into the ears of younger players coming through. The experience of a player with a good career behind him and relaying this to younger players is vital and Crouch seems like the sort of bloke that could do that.

Possible, I've never really considered the possibility of Crouchie sticking around after his playing career. Just assumed he'd be London bound. But yes I could see how he could contribute like that as a mentor. Despite the fact I'm not a fan, he's been a model pro and looked after himself very well. I can see how you'd be only too glad for him to pass on advice to young players.

Without doubt he was. He may have cost 10m but we've got our money's worth out of him. He's played plenty of games, got his share of important goals and is clearly good to have round the place.

I have watched stoke since the early 70's and I regard Crouchie as one of my favourite players I have seen in the red an white stripes. Total value for money and the cost of my season ticket for his skill, goal scoring and honesty. I cannot remember a time I have seen him rolling around on the ground injured although he gets battered most matches without protection from the ref! If other squad members were to copy his work rate and efforts for Stoke they would be much better players. He obviously loves playing football and playing for stoke, I admire how he applauds the crowd at the end of a match and one of the last to leave the pitch. We are fortunate as a club and fans to have him playing for our fav club. Thanks Peter !

He's a good solid pro nothing more.

The thing that grated with crouchy wasn't the price so much as pulis really didn't know how to use him . He looked poor as a loan striker , isolated and ineffective I "think" your point is slightly miss leading if you see the goals per season under both managers. Whether chosen to play or not they are quite similar

He's a good solid pro nothing more. In my opinion he IS one of the best players I have seen at Stoke. Stein a totally different player to him so cannot compare, Fuller magical but sometimes his attitude let him down, Sheron again a different type of player. Crouch has exceptional ball skills for a man his size I saw this in him as a young player at Portsmouth. Dennis Smith is my all time idol and too a man I judged as the best I have seen in red an white. As for Hudson yes he was absolutely one of the most skilful players I have seen at Stoke but my memories of he as a player have been soured by the drunken states I saw him in at the club he had in Newcastle many years ago and more recently in the pubs at Dresden. So as a professional he does not compare. Again thanks Crouchie you are a top all round professional.

Crouch worked miracles to score the goals he did in a role which he himself has pretty much said was a thankless one. We've seen the best of him under Hughes in my opinion.

Crouch has been a model pro since his arrival and has been a real asset to the first team over the last few seasons.
His arrival signalled the end of any real prospects of success or entertainment from the long ball, isolated striker, brand of football that we had been employing and ultimately cost Tony Pulis his job.
Over the duration of his time with us I believe he will prove to be worth £10M.
At the time of his purchase that money could have been used to bring in pacey, powerful players who could have worked in our system and who could have turned the Cup Final squad into an exciting top half Premiership team.

The addition of Peter Crouch turned us into the lowest scorers in the league.

In all probability the fee was £12m which was a hell of a fee I do think it's a hard one to assess if he's been worth this outlay including our top whack of £2m-a-year+ for 4 years. But the way finances are going, even his recent goals against Newcastle and Hull could be worth £2m or £3m in prize money. So 'value' seems to shift all the time with the clubs absolutely swimming in money. I don't think he ever really flourished under TP. But he's been a very good signing overall - in terms of being a model pro, everyone seems to agree he's a very good character to have around the club, a slight magnet for other players - and he's provided some great moments. It's not as if we were remotely an easy sell for high-profile players back in 2011 and the fee probably scared off all our competitors - so, all in all, it's hard to be too critical at all when you look at the big picture. He's certainly in a great run of goalscoring recently despite very rarely starting, and Hughes seems to see him as a Plan B going forward and that'll probably be magnified with the addition of another striker in the summer. Interesting to see what his role is this time next year.

I'd say yes.
He's never let us down, he's been brilliant on and off the pitch, he's scored some really good goals for us and some really important ones too. For me, he was the 1st big signing we made since promotion, the first one where other clubs took notice and it gave is the platform to push on to where we are now. I'll be disappointed when he finally retires but I'm glad we have another two years with a proven premier league goal threat in the squad. Age isn't really a factor with Crouchie, his game hasn't really changes since he was 25, if anything he's a better player for his experience.
And he's the basis for my username!

We're still not ppeddling this nonsense of Palacios being part of the Crouch deal are we? Jesus Chris let it go I guess it is being peddled on the basis that it is true. Perhaps double deals being insisted on involving players who are on the transfer list of clubs hasn't come onto your radar before but the practice is as old as the hills. I give you as a blast from the past Mark and Neville Chamberlain - a deal insisted on by Vale. Neville wasn't exactly Ritchie Barker's idea of a top division player I would wager. You will of course remember that the Crouch deal itself went to the eleventh hour of deadline day despite the fact the fee and personal terms for Crouch were agreed days before. Crouch despite all has been and is a player well worth his cost to the club. The other part of the deal is another story.

Not sure exactly how much each place is worth in the PL this time around but his goals this season alone must be worth a few of those millions.
At the Mestalla the Spaniards sat nearby asked, "where's Crouch?".
I doubt they could have named another Stoke player.
That's what he brought to Stoke City...
