Up until this season I'd have said no, not that he hadn't been great for us but purely for the size of the fee.
Having said that, he has changed my mind.
33 goals in 105 league appearances, not to mention the cups, is pretty good going in a team that doesn't score too many.
Well played today Peter, here's to another happy 2 years.

Well played today Peter, here's to another happy 2 years. A good piece of business - without doubt. And as you say, 2 more years (at least) to come. BTW, I bet his points per goal is quite impressive. I think his goals are often decisive ones (excepting his recent contribution to two best forgotten 4-1 reverses!). Today's being a case in point - his one goal secured two extra points. Anyone got the stats for that?

It's the baggage that came with the deal that grates and has lead to us spending next to nothing now on new players. IMO.

It's not just his playing ability though. He's a great influence to have in the dressing room as well. Well worth 10 mil in today's inflated, overhyped fees for what is no more than mediocre players who think they are the dogs bollox.

It wasn't 10 million it was 18 million with a cart horse chucked in for free! Either way yes he was worth it! : )

Definitely.
Ross McCormack could cost Fulham up to 11 million. Jordan Rhodes could cost Blackburn up to 8 million. Stephen Fletcher could cost Sunderland up to 12 million.
Enough said.

The lad is a class act and the fee we paid is very good value on and off the field, he's clearly very well thought of at the club and a tremendous asset we have.

Hang on!
Where are all the people who were mortified that he'd been offered a 2 year extension??? The people who you would have thought were paying for his wages themselves, where are they???

In image rights alone he's a positive reflection of Stoke every time he's in the media. Add his goals, his hold up play and his universal like ability make him an excellent signing.

I thought at the time we were paying massively over the odds for him given his age and I also struggled to see how he would fit into a Pulis system.
I was never a big fan of Crouch personally, but he more or less won me over in the first season. He didn't get too many plaudits, but if you consider the complete lack of chances we created going forward that year, to finish on 14 goals was a very decent return. However, his lack of pace was part of the reason we struggled to create those chances when playing Pulisball.
What I didn't factor in was Crouch's fitness and professionalism. Add to that the fact that because his game has never been about pace, getting older isn't quite so much of a problem. Our playing style under Mark Hughes has certainly helped.
Now I'm more than happy to say he was worth it. Yes, for 10 million you can get a player who has potentially greater resale value, but when you consider how many other teams have wasted similar amounts of duds, Crouch has delivered for us.
While he has quality, the main thing I like about Crouch is his attitude. So many players seem to waste their talent. Crouch will know when he gets to the end of his career he consistently produced at the highest level.

The issue was never about what we paid for Crouch. It was the additional deal that Levy insisted on as part of the package which Scholes tried to stop, things got taken over his head and the rest is history.

Or to put it another way, Hull substitute Abel Hernandez cost them the same transfer fee as Crouchy cost us.

I think it was a fair price given his reputation, ability and age (no sell on). Not a bargain (Bojan, Muniesa, Shawcross) not a rip off (Palacios, Arismendi). A fair price

Crouch was worth his price tag, but not if we only got him as part of the palacios in the same deal then is Crouch work £18million as Palacios has done nothing to warrant paying any of his price tag. And to think with his wage over the contract Palacios has cost Stoke £18 million is this the biggest waste of money ever in Stoke's history
