Three points today against Hull will see us safe for another season. What would you like to see happen for the rest of the season? I personally would like to see us play some of our younger players to get them bloodied and give them experience. I'd like see Ollie Shenton feature regularly as he seems to have massive potential.

I don't think 39 points will be enough to guarantee safety this season, in any case we need to try and get as close to 60 points as we can. We shouldn't just be looking for the mysterious 40 point safety zone any more we should be looking to push on and I hope the management and owners share this view. We are 100% safe already. This. We could lose every game we have left and we'd still be fine. I don't have any concerns about relegation these days. I think a major factor in that is probably how poor the majority of promoted teams have been in the last few seasons.

I think it's just your opinion which is not a fact, however an opinion can't be wrong so does that make it a fact? this is getting a bit confusing now. Gouranga.

I know they cite 40 points. But has it ever been that high in our history in the Premier League?
I think the highest it has ever been is 38 and last season I think 34 points would have been enough to keep you safe!
We should be fine on 36.

When there was 42 games played 1993 - Crystal Palace 49, Middlesbrough 44, Nottm Forest 40 1994 - Sheff Utd 42, Oldham 40 1995 - Crystal Palace 45, Norwich 43 The league reduced to 20 teams after the 1994-95 season. Since then, just three teams have gone down with 40+ points: 1997 - Sunderland 40 1998 - Bolton 40 2003 - West Ham 42 Gouranga.

Safety is a non-event in the Hughes era, that in itself is a massive achievement.

People at the club, about 6 weeks ago, were saying 36 would be enough this year, so safe already, but I wouldn't like to test it out.

I think we are safe and should start exploring options (Tex, Ollie) and get Ryan and Wingie back to full match fitness before the season ends. But it is still important to keep a settled side like today's selection and make gradual changes while keeping a winning combination; football is essentially a team game. Doesn't help to introduce new players by having makeshift sides and get well beaten.

Gouranga. we have been safe since Newcastle at least but are nailed on now with our goal difference worth an extra point. 5 teams have less than a point a game and 4 have earned 0.85 points a game putting them on course for 32 points. It would be staggering if they all suddenly improved so much to get to 37 points, it would be top 10 form and just won't happen. lasts eason only ourselves and Palace of the bottom 10 after 26 games earned over 1.2 points per game and 8 teams earned 1 point per game or less. We can start planning for next season already

We're not almost there at all, still plenty to do between now and the end of the season to equal last seasons tally and position

8th place, 55pts, positive GD. Great season.
We should not still have the 'get to 40pts then breathe' mentality.

Play the strongest eleven until its impossible for our league position to change. If any fringe player is deemed good enough to start then start them.....until then they're obviously fringe players for a reason.
