I wonder if he is related to the great Dave Swarbrick who I saw in the very early days of his career with Martin Carthy in the upstairs room of the Brunswick pub in Crewe? Went on to be a big part of Fairport Convention.

Meh, we've had the good and bad of Foy. We've probably had the worst of Swarbrick. Perhaps we're due some good luck.

Went on to be a big part of Fairport Convention. Ever been to the Cropredy Festival, Lakeland? Sadly not - although I'd love to have gone - but family and/or work commitments (I worked a lot of shifts and weekends) always seemed to conspire against it. I've certainly always been a fan of both folk and rock since my early days when I worked for the Min of Ag and Fish in Crewe first job after Uni. I actually took over temporarily as the booking secretary of Crewe Folk Club (who met at the Brunswick) when the regular sec was expecting a baby and in the few months I did the job I booked Swarbrick, Martin Carthy, Al Stewart (year of the cat etc.) and several others who went on to be famous, to appear at the Brunswick. Life was downhill from then on!

But, in the end, the choice of referee is irrelevant, surely ?
If the ref gives a couple of decisions felt to be "against" us or "for" the opposition, and we can decide that any/all of those decisions quite clearly cost us the game ( whether that is actually demonstrable or not ) then I can guarantee that by 5.15 this board will be in meltdown about "cheating bastard referees", etc etc etc
I seriously cannot recall a single Prem game of ours ( or any game in the last 10 years or so ) when the ref hasn't had shit piled on them if we have drawn or lost, and that probably covers every Prem and other "high profile" ref employed in that period. Even Howard Webb was pilloried because he didn't give a "certain" penalty to us
