If you end up in the Land of Smiles don't end up been thrown off the top of an apartment block like many expats do! Happens all the time sadly, in fact an Irish bloke aged 49 "jumped" from 36th floor here in Pattaya this week, after a row with his girlfriend. Generally Thai wives are no different to any wife if you treat them good, except that bar is considerably lower than western women. I have a delightful Thai wife, and so do many posters on here, and I am pretty sure they will all agree it's not all perfect, but having been married many years ago to a UK woman it is beyond comparison.

Why are they so much better than western women ? More loving, more attentive, and a lot more appreciative of what you do for them, this may come from humble beginings, I'm sure if you were to meet one who is a CEO of a multi national company she'd be a right miserable twat, If ever my missus sees me tidying up, or putting a load of washing in she takes it personally, as it's her domain, and unlike others I have been married to they do not let arguments go on and on and on. My ex wife did not harbour a grudge, she freeking well nurtured it and fed it...

How did you meet your wife? I treated my wife like a princess, but the straw that broke the camels back was when I tried to force her off the road in the Meir Tunnel. Met mine about 4 yrs ago when I was on holiday, was living in China at the time and made sense financially to move to Thailand, never looked back...

There are good ones and bad ones mate, so you need to be very careful as some are just looking for a big money farang. But I find that they generally nag a lot less than western women and usually know how to have a better laugh and tend not to make a drama out of a crisis. The Buddhist thing appeals to me quite a bit too.
They seem to age much better too (unless they been working in a paddy field all their lives) and tend to be much less overweight. My missus has friends in her 50's who look like they're in their late twenties. You may also find that you play second fiddle to the family at times, so its swings and roundabouts at the end of the day.
Language can be an issue too.

Is dog meat classed as a vegetable, I think I would prefer to take my dog out for a picnic for companionship rather than the main course , that said you do see quite a few older white men in the UK with very young looking Thai girls, well I think they are girls

Stay at home and eat some tripe. You're OK with that aintcha?

Which Baan Klang? There's loads of Baan Klangs. Anyway, eating dog is a cultural thing mate. I don't like it one little bit, but if I was from Laos I might have a different opinion. For example a Hindu would see a Brit eating beef as far more reprehensible than a Brit seeing an Asian eating dog. Thai's are actually very fond of dogs (more fond of them than drunken foreign tourists). However, where I live in Hua Hin, we have a big problem with Brits and Europeans coming over to live, getting a dog and then abandoning the poor thing when they decide to bugger off back home. I find that to be very cruel and yet it happens all the time. And life as a street dog for a domesticated animal in Thai is incredibly tough. Fortunately we have a good dogs home in Hua Hin where new caring owners can be found, but the numbers of dogs on the street due to selfish westerners is a real problem and a huge irritation for local Thai's. The King is actually the patron of our dogs home. Carpslayer, if you must comment on places that you've never visited or understood such as Thailand, turn your computer off, get off your arse and go and experience life for real. Anybody can sit there Googling their life away. Hey, you may even find that you will stop having the need to tear strips out of folks who live a slightly different life than you do, in a part of the world that isn't actually Stoke. Just a thought like
