Whilst I appreciate Hughes likes his defenders to play football we conceed far too many goals, Huth & Shawcross pairing is proven rock solid so we need to adjust our style to acomodate them as a pairing. Be that Muniesa or a better footballing holding midfieler who cancan collect the ball and distribute it well (sorry Glenn but that's not you) or better full backs, but that pairing needs to be in the back 4 next season at least until a certainty worthy replacement is found, preferably a ball playing central defender with pace

I like Shawcross and Muniesa. Not sure I have seen a bad game featuring this pairing

Just seeing the words "Huth & Shawcross in central defence" has sent a warm, comforting feeling corsing through my veins, like a snort of strong cooking brandy on a chill February morning NOTE: Other central defensive combinations are available

If he builds his fitness up and performs well for Leicester (reports so far suggest he has done) until the end of the season then surely next season he has to be considered as a contender?

Dear god ....Shall we get Faye back also ? One bad result and we get this bollicks .......you not see Huth v Wrexham then ? On this one I disagree with you. If Ryan did his cruciate tomorrow, when he returned in 12 months time, he would be put straight back into the team and given games to find his confidence, fitness and form. Robert Huth should have been given the same opportunity, especially when you consider that since his return to fitness, the players in front of him, generally, have been either crap (Wilson) or injured (Muniesa) themselves. If Huth proves his fitness at Leicester, then he should come back to Stoke and be a regular in our team next season. Will that happen? If he proves his fitness and still doesn't return, then it is a mistake in my opinion. Defenders should be able to defend. Anything else is a bonus. A fit Robert Huth is one of the best players in our squad.

Mate I love Robert Huth but the facts remain he's been around the squad virtually all season and has not been deemed good enough by the manager When he's played he's been average at best .....if he comes back then great but I'd say there's no chance of the old Huth returning Nostalgia gets you nothing

Why do you think Mark Hughes has chosen to select Muniesa, Wilson, Cameron and Wollscheid alongside Shawcross over Huth at various times this season?
The manager isn't an idiot, he clearly doesn't feel that Huth is ready to come into the team and if you're judging him at face value then this spell at Leicester will give us an idea whether or not he'll be up to the task next season.
Let's just wait and see how he goes on at Leicester.

The lad that ripped him a new one at the weekend can't get in their side regularly and before Saturday had scored 7 goals in 100 games, making Mama look prolific in the process.

So did Huth but perhaps sparky saw something we didn't. Perhaps the Leicester move will benefit us if huth comes back fresh. It's a mistake in hindsight because we now have no defenders lol.

He clearly wasn't going to get games with us so the loan to a fellow Premier League clubs gives the best chance of seeing Huth back at Stoke in the future. I do think he should have been given the games to prove whether he could return to the Huth of old though. Were Shawcross to get an injury that kept him out for 12 months, I'm pretty sure that once fit, he'd be back in the team and given games to see if he could return to previous levels.

He does deserve time but I don't like what I've seen so far, despite him being my MOM v Leicester and Newcastle. Strange then eh but the last 2 games have been a real concern, not because of his performances, which have been poor, but his attitude. Two games running he hasn't taken on board instruction and has reacted badly to perceived criticism from teammates. He is clearly a sensitive soul and to me, he looks like he'd be more suitable to Arsenal's team of pansies rather than our team of men!

Why do you think Mark Hughes has chosen to select Muniesa, Wilson, Cameron and Wollscheid alongside Shawcross over Huth at various times this season? I'll give you a simple answer to that question, Hughes likes his defenders to be able to play football to fit the new style,he also likes a balanced team. Huth's abilities represent a solid no nonsense defender. Wilson is a better footballer than Huth and he's also left footed. Muniesa is a better footballer than Huth and he's also left footed. Cameron is a better footballer than Huth. Wollschield is a better footballer than Huth.

That's as maybe Dave but he's got to prove it The OP was pleading for it I don't doubt that for a minute but given what other options we have, he should have been given that chance here and he hasn't been. Some may say that shows how far away he really is from being the Huth of old, others would point to all managers, good ones and bad ones, making totally unfathomable decisions for unexplained reasons. When Hughes has commented on the Huth situation it has always been along the lines of getting him fit so as to get him back with us. He said as much during the January transfer window. I'm taking those comments at face value at this moment in time and if Huth does prove that he's return to fitness during his spell at Leicester, then like the opening poster, I hope to god we start the next season with a centre back partnership of Huth and Shawcross.

Absolutely and hodgson is of the same mind set, that's why Cahill is a main stay because he's a good footballing defender

He seems to be very comfortable on the ball, is quicker than Whelan and better at tackling than Whelan too. A bit surprised MLH hasn't tried out this more.
