I thought he was motm too. He was excellent. Walters got the hattrick but Whelan's all round play today was fantastic.

His passion was summed up 2nd half when he went apeshit at Wollscheid which nearly ended up in blows.

Whelan was just Whelan, keeping an eye out for trouble, getting tackles in and trying to pace things with passing. Main attribute was his leadership when Ryan went off, had words with players and hand a 'lost in translation' moment with Wolly towards the end of the match.

He was excellent today, never lost a challenge and was virtually on his own second half when trying to shield the central defenders as N'Zonzi went AWOL and Adam got brought on.....
This was exactly the kind of game where we needed to grind out a result when characters like Whelan and Walters are needed more than most.

Whelan and Walters are from the same lump of granite. Both have had plenty of detractors, but despite millions being spent (on fees or wages) on players to replace them, no one's managed it yet.

Whelan was outstanding today ... again. He was wasn't he. As was Walters in the leading the line role many said he wasn't capable of doing effectively. Would you be happy with Jon being the main man to lead the line for us for the next 18 months Dave? There seems to be a collection of individuals coming on here tonight berating people for suggesting previously that we needed better. Fair play and respect to Jon tonight but those said individuals are looking a bit small time to me tonight if I'm honest.

I never ever said that I would but I maintain we have 5 forwards, 4 of which are capable of doing the job in that role. Over the course of the season all will contribute. All have done. The squad needs a winger but it doesn't need a forward unless someone is leaving. With crouch penning a 2 year contract, clearly no-one is.

Whelan was outstanding today ... again. Really? he was run ragged by Fer second half due to his lack of pace. Our midfield disappeared as a defensive unti second half so i can't see Whelan was even in the frame for one of the top 5 players, N'Zonzi contributed more than Whelan but Wollscheid, Walters, Begovic, ireland and Moses had stretches of clear water to Whelan. Great as a squad player but we need more in midfield if we are to keep improving. Whenever we go away to a top side we are out passed and out moved in midfield. Certainly need more legs in the two who play behind Bojan long-term

I still don't think we have the forward to lead the line for us mate, regardless of Walters' hat-trick today. I was really hoping Diouf was going to be that man but for all his pace, his first touch is dreadful and he seems incapable of playing with his back to goal. Crouch is absolutely fantastic at holding the ball up but he's got zero pace and is clearly incapable of leading the line on his own. Indeed Diouf and Crouch both look like players who would work far better in a partnership of a front two but that would mean losing Bojan (when fit). That leaves Super Jon to lead the line in a 4-2-3-1 and he (despite all his endeavour) simply does not have enough quality to carry that off home and away, across the whole of the Prem, week in week out, imho.

That QPR defence most Championship clubs would turn them down. I have no idea who the right back was, Moses had him on toast. Richard Dunne was the worse centre back I've seen since we came up. Onuoha was just shit but we mainly targeted his mate. And Arnie turned Hill like he wasn't there. Hill then had the beating of Walters (as you'd expect) and then 'Arry bought whoever the fuck he bought on, who got out paced by Crouchy around the outside and then Crouch proceeded to cut in and was nearly in on goal. I never thought I'd see the day where Crouchy would do that! And then there's Rob Green and the first goal!

Wr are Stoke City though so we can't afford countless options. Diouf will come good. I'm convinced of it. Walters can do a good Jo in that position and crouch can too (though he'd be at the bottom of the pecking order for me). We've also got odemwingie to come back. We don't need another forward right now, or if we do, we need to get rid of someone first.
